A reasonable estimated full-time salary range for this position is $68,247-$112,802.
Percent time:
Appointments may be part-time and may range between 33% to 50% per course, depending on teaching responsibilities.
Anticipated start:
Spring 2025 and/or Summer 2025
Review timeline:
Appointments for the fall semester are usually reviewed in May, for the spring semester in November, and for Summer in April.

Position description

The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified non-tenure track lecturers to teach Linguistics courses should an opening arise.

Teaching Responsibilities: We are seeking outstanding lecturers capable of teaching one or more courses in the undergraduate Linguistics curriculum. Courses will be assigned on an as-needed basis.

General duties: In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties may include, but are not limited to, holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing and developing course materials (e.g., syllabus, exams, quizzes, etc.), supervising GSIs, maintaining a course website, and using a learning management system (e.g. bCourses (Canvas) site).

You must be eligible to work in the United States. For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the start date of the position. The department is unable to provide a visa/work permit.

The department is interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, and service. The department is also interested in individuals who may have had non-traditional career paths or who may have taken time off for family reasons (e.g., children, disabled, or elderly), or who have achieved excellence in careers outside academia (e.g., in professional or industry service).

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program at time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Advanced degree by start date.

Preferred qualifications

PhD (or equivalent international degree) in Linguistics and demonstrated excellence in teaching courses at the college level. Prior experience teaching courses on these topics.
