Assistant Professor, Studio Art Foundations

The Opportunity

The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD), in the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month tenure-earning assistant professor in Design Foundations. The anticipated start date is August 8, 2025.

Candidates must have a promising exhibition record that demonstrates potential for national recognition. The candidate's creative research should have a strong basis in design. Student work should exhibit a strong understanding of two-dimensional and three-dimensional design. The successful candidate will teach a 3/3 course load. Most of the teaching will be undergraduate 2D and 3D design courses. In addition to teaching, the candidate must sustain an active studio practice and exhibition record, and perform departmental and university service at the school, college, and university level.

Minimum Qualifications:

• MFA (Master of Fine Arts or equivalent terminal degree) in an appropriate area of specialization from an accredited institution by May 2025.

• Evidence of promising creative practice in studio art.

• Active exhibition record.

• College level teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Creative research with a strong basis in design.

• Exhibition record with potential for national recognition.

• Demonstrate outstanding design capabilities, strong grounding in formal design principles, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and critiquing skills.

• Student work exhibits strong understanding and effective instruction of two-dimensional and three-dimensional design.
