Work Schedule
Spring 2025 - Orientation Leaders are required to attend weekly meetings that are TBD.

OLs will move onto campus and begin training in mid-May. Programs will start at the end of May, into June, July, and early August. OLs also assist during extended orientation in mid-August.

OLs are required to participate in all training days and all program dates.
Job Description
The Office of Admissions is looking for outstanding undergraduate students to fill the role of Orientation Leader (OL) for the summer of 2025. As an OL, you will have the opportunity to welcome new students and their guests/parents to the NKU community.

You will assist the orientation staff with programs, participate in information sessions, facilitate small group discussions, and always convey the spirit and sense of community that is a part of the NKU campus.

Remember, the first impression is a lasting one! In addition, this is also a great leadership experience to put on a resume; employers take note of these types of positions.
Primary Responsibilities

  • Facilitate small group interaction with incoming students and assist parents with questions and concerns.
  • Serve as a positive representative of NKU while fostering a welcoming environment among its newest community members.
  • Public Relations - OLs function in a public relations role in everything that they do. Remember, you're always wearing your name tag.
  • Community Development - OLs foster an environment that helps incoming students develop an identity as a member of the NKU community. A student's sense of belonging contributes to their institutional commitment which positively impacts retention.
  • Logistics - OLs will escort students and family members to different events/activities on campus, assist in the delivery of orientation materials, and direct parking.
  • Explain academic and co-curricular (involvement) opportunities and how to take advantage of those opportunities.
  • Acquaint new students with campus services, their locations as well as building names and locations. OLs may also help new students figure out where their classes will be held based on their schedule of classes.
  • Serve as a foundational member of students' networks, connecting them to important information and resources before, during, and after the orientation program.
  • Make announcements to your small group or the larger group in a variety of formal and informal settings. Ex. Changes in the schedule; in cases of Severe Weather or other situations where seeking shelter is necessary.
  • Assist with the preparation of Orientation materials and activities. Packet stuffing and OL training are an essential part of preparing to be an orientation leader. Materials assembly (aka packet stuffing).
  • Setting up and tearing down of events during Orientation programs. Ex. Check-In; Resource Fair, etc.


Qualifications
Minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA (currently, as well as at the end of the Fall 2024 semester and Spring 2025 semester).

  • Currently enrolled full-time at NKU
  • Plans to enroll full-time at NKU in Fall 2025
  • Ability to work all dates, in their entirety.
