MU Police Job Description
The University of Missouri Police Department's Police Officer Trainee is required to complete all tasks, assignments, tests, and expectations of the academy they are assigned to in Upon passing the Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training test and becoming a certified police officer within the state of Missouri, the trainee must meet all minimum requirements required to be a University of Missouri Police Officer as outlined in department policy and procedure, 1:061 Selection Process. The Police Officer Trainee shall complete other duties as assigned while in the program, but none that would require them to be a sworn police officer. This position is specifically designed to prepare an individual to be a police officer for the University of Missouri Police Department. Individuals may be within this position while completing the approved academy and testing for Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training. If an individual upon completion of an approve academy cannot successfully complete the Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training test to become a certified police officer within the state of Missouri, they shall be removed from this position. Individuals who successfully complete the Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training test and become a certified Police Officer shall be moved to the title of Police Officer (job code 4118) within the University of Missouri Police Department and shall become sworn officers assigned to field training as outlined in department policy and procedure. Hours determined by Police Academy. Upon moving to the Police Officer position, officers will work one of three shifts including weekends (07:00 - 15:00, 15:00 - 23:00, or 23:00 - 07:00). Overtime is expected for Special Events and Functions. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. A valid Missouri operator's license (for positions at UMKC only, valid Kansas operator's license acceptable). Preferred Qualifications
Anticipated Hiring Range

Other Info The Police department hopes to fill these positions by March 1, 2025 in order to enroll candidates in the Law Enforcement Training Institute for the Spring 2025 LETI class, beginning on or about March 31, 2025. An update will be sent to all applicants after applications are reviewed updating them of their status in the process. The Police Department allows applicants not selected to reapply. This includes all applicants who successfully completed the selection process but were not offered employment. All applicants must reapply to be considered in future positions. Applicants who fail portions of the selection process will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
