Job Purpose

The Emergency Services Leader, leads a team of state certified emergency responders (SMEs) across all shifts who add value to manufacturing operations through overall emergency management & response, as well as accident mitigation, fire suppression, medical intervention, hazardous materials clean-up, and confined space rescue operations. Leads teams of emergency services daily, on weekends, and during shutdown for various projects. Supports company events, Fire and EMS projects, and Genpo requested services. Job requires constant interaction with manufacturing departments. Serves as SME and Technical Advisor for all on-site emergency operations. Develops and implements strategy to maintain and upgrade on-site fire suppression systems. including budgeting, PO's, staff and contractor management, HDMA permitting processes and project leader support. Leads training activities, and ensures all situations are planned for under the HDMA Emergency Response Plan. Lead Incident command activities. Lead recruitment and team building activities. Ensure that all fire suppression equipment, policies, procedures comply with local/state and NFPA requirements. As plant Emergency Response Plan leader, ensure that all plant business leaders are prepared for emergency situations. Lead HDMA ERT interaction with local responding agencies building strong working relationships that serve as a unified command when outside agency assistance is needed.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leads the daily operations of ES staff and Plant emergency responses. Leads the Plant incident command structure in all plant emergencies. Leads response with plant leaders and local outside responding agencies. Leads plant ES medical responses, all hazardous material clean up, and Confined Space Rescue activities.
  • Lead, manages, and annualizes activities with all fire protection system maintenance or modifications, drawing reviews, inspections, testing and working closely with critical communication with horizontal communication.
  • Maintain state certifications, Designs, coordinates, and leads required training. Set direction for Business planning and annual budget.
  • Serve as SME (Subject matter expert) and leads a team of SMEs on Emergency response operations as a Technical advisor in Emergency Response operations for HDMA through service and technical knowledge
  • Technical advisor on permitting for Hot Work, Confined Spaces, Elevated work, and monitor activity for compliance by both associates and contractors. Leads, manage and implementation of ES projects and initiatives as requested.
  • Develop ES team with professional skills and technical expertise / Support Bakka and Property Risk from a SME perspective

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • A.S. Fire Science, B.S. Fire Administration, B.S. Fire Administration - Fire Investigation or Fire Science Certificate.
  • *Comparable Honda manufacturing and/or Emergency services leadership experience can compensate for minimal educational qualifications.
  • 5-8 years' experience based on education


Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced EMT (AEMT), and Paramedic. EMR or Hazmat Technician. Other Certifications: Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technicians (OHST), Safety Management Specialists (SMS), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), and/or Advanced Safety Certificate program completion are preferred.
