Overview
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Utah State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Anthropology with a research emphasis in the intersection between cultural anthropology and health issues. Special consideration will be given to candidates who work on health disparities in rural, immigrant, or native communities. This is an academic year, tenure-track position with a 2/2 teaching load. Courses to teach will include ethnographic methods and intro to medical anthropology. The successful applicant will demonstrate a willingness for interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues in the department and across the university, to apply for external funding, publish research, and engage in teaching and service.

The appointment begins August 1, 2025. Review of applications begins November 18th, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a robust, externally funded research program in environmental or natural resource sociology.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Provide service to the department, university and profession.
  • Contribute to the diversity, inclusion and retention priorities of the department, university, and profession.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Anthropology or related field from a CHEA accredited institution or international equivalent.
  • A focus on medical anthropology (cultural emphasis)
  • Demonstrated ability to live and work legally in the U.S.
  • The successful applicant must be able to satisfactorily complete a background check prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A record of interdisciplinary research
  • The potential for developing external grant proposals
