Adjunct Faculty - Veterinary Technician Clinical Pathology

Tulsa Community College is hiring for a VETT 1232 Clinical Pathology I (spring course) and VETT 2233 Clinical Pathology III (fall course).

Instructor Responsibilities: VETT 1232 Clinical Pathology 1
Course Description: 8 week, 2 credit hour course
Introduction to laboratory procedures emphasizing urinalysis and normal hematology of a variety of animal species; including blood cell counts and blood cell identification. 8-week course. Lecture 1 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Prerequisites: Admission to VT Program or Program Director approval. Includes lab component. This course will meet twice weekly to achieve the credit hour equivalent to a 16 week course.

Comments: These students are matriculating their 2ns semester of the VT Program. This is their first laboratory/microscopy course. It provides the foundation for another course in the clin path series dealing with abnormal hematology and clinical chemistry. Students should receive ample opportunities to obtain, prepare and analyze various urine/blood samples.

Instructor Responsibilities: VETT 2233 Clinical Pathology 3
Course Description: 16 week, 3 credit hour course
Continuation of VETT 1232 & VETT 1242. Laboratory procedures including abnormal hematology, blood chemistry analysis, cytology, specialized blood testing techniques, coagulation, and immunology. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 4 hours. Prerequisites: Admission to VT Program or Program Director approval. Includes lab component. This course will meet twice weekly.

Comments: These students are matriculating their 4th semester of the VT Program. This continues prior laboratory/microscopy courses. Students should receive ample opportunities to obtain, prepare and analyze various blood, chemistry and other clinical samples.

Bachelor's degree or credentialed RVT with minimum of 5 years experience or credentialed in clinical pathology (MLT degree or other certification).

Philosophy compatible with that of a comprehensive urban community college.

Master's degree in the appropriate field of study with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the field of study.

RVT-VTS (Clinical Pathology) or DVM degree with a minimum of 5 years experience.

Provide instruction in microscopy, urinalysis, hematology, hemoparasites, clinical chemistry, cytology, coagulation (theory and diagnostic testing), immunology (as relates to clinical pathology and diagnostics), quality control of sample analysis and laboratory equipment, and other clinical pathology topics.

Ability to explain tasks and skills for entry-level, veterinary technicians-in-training; capable of multi-tasking; documentation of procedures and medical record completion; evaluate and record student performance per TCC and AVMA requirements.
