Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position |
The primary function of the Director of Communications for Academic Affairs is to initiate, monitor, and coordinate cohesive communication with internal and external stakeholders.
The content of the communication ranges from university policies and procedures, strategic planning and priorities, and administrative communiques.
Communication tools include annual reports, news releases, the provost's newsletter, institutional websites, including shared sites, videos, social media, faculty handbook, institutional policies, presentations, speeches and reporting of strategic priorities.
The mode of communication is electronic/digital. audio and print. |
Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Division of Academic Affairs is responsible for oversight of the University's roles of teaching, research, scholarship, and service. The Unit supports faculty and staff in their career development and students in their academic success and excellence. The Unit is responsible for knowledge and information sharing among the institution's units, and for the facilitation and tracking of the institution's mission. |
Minimum Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in a comparable role.
Ability to solve problems independently.
Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills (lexical and iconographic).
Ability to organize and address multiple and complex projects.
Demonstrated communication, collaboration, and team- engagement skills.
Ability to be productive and creative on a diverse team.
Ability to meet tight deadlines.
Experience in publishing in higher education.
Ability to work collaboratively and work with internal and external constituents.
Strong writer with proven skills in producing diverse content across multiple platforms (samples will be requested).
Ability to conduct research to determine content for communications.
High level of interest and knowledge related to critical issues in higher education, student success, journalism and story-telling.
Five years experience with communication and online content management in a higher education setting.
Highly skilled in use of Social Media platforms (LinkedIn, IG, etc.,), Microsoft office applications, Internet research, AI-related tools such as ChatGPT, Adobe Creative Cloud, SharePoint, OneDrive, Visualization tools, videography, photography. |
