Primary Purpose of Position |
Housing Research in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a Research Associate position. The employee will be expected to perform research, critically analyze data, and assume primary responsibility for writing and publishing the scientific results in the Housing Research projects, which the Principal Investigator will direct. The position requires excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Details are as follows: The employee will report directly to the principal investigator and is responsible for completing Housing Research project work as assigned by the supervising PI; The employee is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Housing Research projects; The employee is expected to work independently to collect data for Housing Research projects and analyze research results using appropriate software, to contribute to publications, reports, and presentations at professional meetings or for local communities for the Housing Research program, to participate in grant proposal writing and assist in submission activities, to provide student mentoring for undergraduate and graduate research assistants in Housing Research, to continue to develop his/her research knowledge and skills through workshops/seminars or webinars related to research and scholarship, grant writing, and community outreach. |

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of four academic departments within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in three program areas with the following six distinct specialty emphases: child development and family studies (non-licensure), child development early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), consumer sciences, fashion merchandising and design, food and nutritional sciences (human nutrition) and food and nutritional sciences (food science). The department offers a Master of Science degree in one program area, food and nutritional sciences. Additionally, the department offers the Master of Arts in Teaching in Family and Consumer Sciences Education and the Master of Arts in Teaching in Child Development, Early Education, and Family Studies (B-K). Faculty members are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food science, housing, apparel, textiles and family issues. |
Minimum Requirements |
- Master's degree in housing, family and consumer sciences, sociology, urban planning, or related fields, specializing in environmental challenges and quality of life of underserved populations.
- A strong housing and social science background with evidence of research and data analytic skills related to both quantitative and qualitative research or mixed methods.
- Evidence of working independently as well as collaboratively and effectively as an interdisciplinary research team member.
- Evidence for writing ability, problem-solving ability, oral communication, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively on multiple projects.

- Ph.D. degree in housing, family and consumer sciences, sociology, urban planning, or related fields, specializing in environmental challenges and quality of life of underserved populations.
- Ability to disseminate scholarly work through publications in peer-reviewed journals or outlets/ and seek external funding.
