Position Summary

Student Rights and Responsibilities (SRR) is dedicated to fostering a safe and respectful campus environment by upholding community standards and encouraging student accountability. The office resolves conflicts, promotes ethical decision-making, and supports students in understanding the impact of their actions on the university community. With an emphasis on integrity and respect, SRR educates students about their rights and responsibilities, addresses incidents of misconduct, and manages the University's resolution processes.

The Student Conduct Specialist is a key member of SSR team and must possess a high degree of integrity and professionalism due to the nature of the work. The incumbent manages conduct cases from intake through resolution and engages in outreach and education to the campus community. The Student Conduct Specialist facilitates meaningful projects and assists with administrative responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve alleged violations of the Visitor and Student Codes of Conduct.

  • Conduct one-on-one student meetings to include intake sessions, , mentoring and coaching sessions, informational pre-hearing procedures, and adjudication of alleged code of conduct violations.

  • Maintain case file documentation and use online records management systems.

  • Create and present instructional videos, campus-wide presentations, and training.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of educational conduct outcomes, including scheduling, follow-up, and maintenance of records.

  • Assist with records checks and Dean's Certification requests.

  • Complete benchmarking projects including surveying peer and aspirant institutions and researching contemporary practices.

  • Develop SOP manuals and documentation.

  • Assemble records for Admissions Review Team.

  • Attend professional development opportunities as available.

  • Support general SSR functions.

Schedule: Flexible scheduling. Expected between 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday, approximately 15 hours per week.

The ideal candidate will be a professional or graduate student.


Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.



Preferred Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Enrolled as a graduate or professional student at the University of New Mexico.

  • Prior experience working as a Resident Assistant or other Student Affairs leadership position.

  • Prior experience conducting investigations, delivering presentations and training, and interpreting policies and procedures.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This includes mediating, facilitating, innovating, guiding, advocating, and mentoring.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with excellent attention to detail.

  • Outstanding critical thinking and active listening skills.

  • Exceptional presentation skills including development of training tools and slide decks.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters with discretion including those consistent with the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA).

  • Proficient use of Windows operating systems.

  • Must be in good standing with the University of New Mexico.
