Construction Materials Laboratory Technician Entry-Level

S&ME is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Construction Materials Laboratory Technician to join our Construction Services team in Columbus, Ohio. Are you ready to dive into hands-on work, enjoy the outdoors, and make a real impact? Join us at S&ME!

As a Construction Materials Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for testing and analyzing construction materials, including soil, concrete, masonry, and asphalt. You will work with experienced professionals to ensure materials meet required standards, maintain testing equipment, and provide detailed reports that contribute to the success of construction projects.



Your Day-to-Day:

a Perform Materials Testing: Carry out a variety of tests on construction materials, ensuring results are accurate and well-documented.
a Report Preparation: Create clear and comprehensive reports on test findings, providing insights for project teams and clients.
a Equipment Management: Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure all testing is precise and meets industry standards.
a Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with senior technicians and engineers to discuss test results and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
a Quality Control: Help identify and resolve any discrepancies in materials, contributing to the high quality of construction projects.



What You Bring:

a A High School Diploma/GED required; associate degree or technical certification in a related field preferred.
a Experience in construction materials testing or a related field is a plus, but not required.
a Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate results.
a Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
a Good communication skills for preparing test reports and discussing findings with colleagues.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provide Personal Protective Equipment such as:



  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions outside normal business hours, as needed
  • Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
  • Walking over rough and uneven terrain, maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Traveling out-of-town and possibly overnight for assignments as needed
