The Opportunity:

Join our dynamic Facilities Operations team as a Maintenance Technician II. This position plays a crucial role in the operational maintenance and sanitation of the campus, ensuring a safe, functional, clean, efficient, and attractive living and learning environment. The Maintenance Technician II troubleshoots issues, provides service, and responds to requests from customers and staff. The ideal candidate possesses intermediate maintenance repair skills in various building systems, including plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry. The employee will also assume on-call responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Responsibilities:


  • Perform planned preventive maintenance (PM) and conduct PM repairs (PMR) as scheduled or assigned.

  • Respond to corrective repairs to restore functionality based on user reports.

  • Perform painting work on exterior and interior areas, equipment, and building components.

  • Clean stairwells, cages, fire extinguisher cabinets, bollards, guardrails, and other designated areas.

  • Assist in cleaning and replacing parking signs, wheel stops, and related fixtures.

  • Refresh paint on handrails, guardrails, and other designated areas.

  • Assist in minor electrical repairs such as bulb replacement and reinstallation of light fixtures.

  • Support central shops, contractors, and other departments as needed.

  • Perform routine and project-based maintenance tasks as part of Facilities Improvement and Capital Improvement programs.

  • Pressure wash stairwells, concrete decks, and other structures as required.

  • Report maintenance, health, and sanitation deficiencies promptly.

  • Adhere to university, local, state, and federal guidelines, regulations, and policies.

  • Assist with inventory control and security measures.

  • Collaborate effectively with other campus departments.


Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and 3 years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma and 3 years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 3+ years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.

  • Experience with interior and exterior painting, including knowledge of surface preparation, paint application techniques, and color matching.

  • Proficient in performing preventive maintenance and repair tasks across multiple building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry.

  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, capable of performing minor repairs and installations (e.g., bulb replacement, fixture reinstallation).

  • Ability to identify maintenance issues, analyze problems, and implement effective solutions.

  • Familiarity with routine maintenance procedures and project-based assignments in a large-scale facility or campus environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.

  • Proficiency with using standard office software applications including Microsoft Office, work order systems (e.g., Integrated Work Management System), electronic equipment (iPad for AiM PM checkpoints), and utilize telecommunication devices.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to changing priorities and emergency situations effectively.

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, ensuring accurate record-keeping, inventory management, and compliance with policies and procedures.

  • Maintain a commitment to safety protocols and procedures, with a track record of promoting a safe work environment.

  • Relevant certifications such as HVAC Technician, Electrician Certification, or Painting Certification are desirable.


Health Assessment Required:

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

May be required to participate in respiratory, medical examination, and training in use of respirators.
