What this job involves - The Senior Instrumentation Technician is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of measurement and test equipment used throughout the organization. This role involves maintaining calibration procedures, performing calibrations, and troubleshooting equipment issues. The Senior Instrumentation Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining product quality, regulatory compliance, and overall operational efficiency. What is the day to day? Develop and Maintain Calibration Procedures: Create and update detailed calibration procedures for a wide range of measurement and test equipment, adhering to industry standards and internal quality requirements. Ensure standards are accurately maintained. Perform Calibrations: Execute calibrations on various types of equipment, including but not limited to:Electrical equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies) Mechanical equipment (gauges, calipers, micrometers) Temperature equipment (thermocouples, ovens, freezers) Pressure equipment (transducers, gauges) Freezer, incubators, refrigerators Cryofreezer, CryoChambers Other specialized equipment relevant to the industry Analyze Calibration Data: Evaluate calibration results, identify any out-of-tolerance conditions, and recommend corrective actions. Maintain Calibration Records: Maintain accurate and organized records of all calibrations performed, including calibration certificates and traceability information. Manage Calibration Schedule: Develop and maintain a calibration schedule to ensure all equipment is calibrated within required intervals. Communicate clearly and accurately with clients. Troubleshoot Equipment Issues: Investigate and resolve equipment malfunctions, identify root causes, and implement corrective measures. Interface with External Calibration Vendors: Coordinate with external calibration service providers when necessary, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and quality standards. Prepare instruments for shipping and receive in calibrated instruments and return to service. Participate in Audits: Support internal and external audits related to calibration and quality management systems. Stay Current with Industry Standards: Maintain knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices in calibration. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve calibration processes, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. Evaluate capabilities of equipment to ensure compliance. Adhere to compliance, safety, and agreed to SLAs. Ensure that all work orders are closed out appropriately and contain the required data, reports, and documentation. Desired experience and technical skills Required 4+ years' of hands-on experience in calibrations or related field Strong understanding of measurement principles and uncertainty analysis Able to read equipment prints Previous leadership experience Skilled in use of tools and machinery required by the position Team player, hard worker, good interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well in both oral and written reports Familiar with computer equipment and programs, like Microsoft Office Capable of operating BAS (Building Automation System) and work order management system Follow standard operating procedures Able to program a variety of Micro Controllers and relay outputs Familiar with 4 - 20 mA loop controls, Ohms Law Preferred Any Safety related certification CMMS Maximo Experience Relevant certifications in calibration (e.g., ASQ Certified Calibration Technician) Knowledge and experience working in a GMP environment Work Environment This position may require occasional lifting of equipment up to a certain weight limit The Calibration Engineer may need to work with hazardous materials, requiring adherence to safety protocols |
