A Brief Overview

The Vice President of Investment Accounting is responsible for providing leadership to achieve key business objectives for area(s) of responsibility including various equity method and financial investments, holding company accounting, contract accounting, fixed assets accounting, budgeting, and reporting. Oversee the accounting and fair value conclusions as it relates to a large group of private equity investments and provides support for update meetings with senior leaders of the company. Lead and oversee the development and maintenance of accurate, timely and insightful financial reporting, lender compliance, audit completion and analysis of invested assets from both a GAAP and Management reporting viewpoint.

What you will do



  • Oversees the accounting for a group of private equity investment companies that invest in the public and private securities of various start-up companies and professionally managed funds measured at fair value - this includes VIE analysis, review of various legal documents, impairment issues and partnering with the FP&A team on the fair valuation conclusions.
  • Oversees the preparation of financial reporting (e.g. monthly, quarterly, and annual) including the preparation of audited GAAP financial statements inclusive of footnotes and various management reports.
  • Oversees the accounting for derivatives (including interest rate caps, interest rate swaps and total return swaps) and related transactions for any related collateral accounts.
  • Oversees the administration of the lender compliance function as it relates to guarantees that the Company has provided. This includes calculating, monitoring and reporting on various guarantor covenants and related financial statement distribution.
  • Oversees Contract Accounting to insure proper accounting for all pertinent records; coordinates with Hunt Building Company, Hunt Investment Management, and Hunt Military Housing to ensure property accounting and use the projects module (or equivalent) in the company's ERP system.
  • Oversees the fixed asset accounting and reporting for the enterprise in accordance with GAAP / company policy.
  • Oversees the GAAP disclosure checklist process for the various financial statements published by the Investment Accounting Team (this is a dynamic process given the volume of investment activity).
  • Ensures that the team's work product is materially correct and of high quality on a consistent basis.
  • Oversees the liquidation of disposed entities for the enterprise including partnering with other accounting leaders and the Legal Department.
  • Create and document accounting policies and procedures.
  • Obtain and analyze legal documents related to transactions for accounting implications.
  • Develops, manages, and oversees an effective internal control environment.
  • Oversees and leads the analysis and preparation of technical accounting memos and related analysis together with presentations for a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provides thought leadership and functional expertise to internal/external stakeholders for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Prepares annual budgets and quarterly updates for areas of responsibility.
  • Direct supervision which includes, hire, fire, performance management responsibilities of direct reports.
  • Ensures that the intercompany balances in areas of responsibility are either cash settled or converted to equity timely in compliance with any applicable/prescriptive legal documents (e.g. loans or operating agreements) subject to the approval of the Tax Team.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting. Required
  • 7-9 years of general accounting /operations including journal entries and financial statement preparation to include reporting experience Required and
  • At least 3 years of leading people at the professional level Required
  • 2-5 years Big 4 audit experience including attaining manager titling Preferred
  • Maintains a professional and competent presence when meeting with senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify accounting issues impacting financial markets and instruments.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret and communicate a variety of financial and accounting information to individuals at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, interpret and communicate a variety of technical accounting issues to individuals at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement processes improvements.
  • Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. senior/executive management, peers, and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches.
  • Demonstrates strong project management skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
  • Displays teamwork by balancing team and individual responsibilities.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office applications. Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel is required.
  • Working knowledge of large ERP systems is required (Workday, Oracle, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards E-1).
  • Requires an innovative, highly motivated individual, who is a detail oriented, self-starter who takes initiative and can lead team.
  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail, and demonstrate knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and industry professionals.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Upon Hire Required
