Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for our offices located in Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology patients in an outpatient setting
  • Initiate and document appropriate interventions
  • Evaluate and record patient and family response within practice protocol
  • Prescribes drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation
  • Assess patient and family needs and provides education
  • Promotes/provides staff education
  • Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, and home setting
  • Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice

Qualifications

  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Post Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant hematology/oncology experience is preferred
  • Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment
  • RN State License and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Must be willing to travel to the various practice locations

Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
