Job Summary

The Recreation Supervisor of Adult Sports is responsible for the planning, implementation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of Milwaukee Recreations adult sports programs. Key areas of responsibility include overseeing adult and 50+ sports leagues, managing facility and staff scheduling for year-round league play, and recruiting, training, and developing sports officials and part-time staff. This position also plays a crucial role in developing policies and procedures to ensure that operations align with established guidelines. Through strategic oversight and a commitment to excellence, the Supervisor will help elevate the quality and reach of adult sports league opportunities for the Milwaukee community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required from an accredited college or university in Recreation Management, Sport Management, Education, or related field. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of increasingly responsible full-time recreation experience in an urban setting developing and supervising adult sports programs and leagues.
  • Sports officiating experience PREFERRED (typically 1 or more years) outside of a collegiate Intramural Sports program (extramural, high school, college level officiating)
  • Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) certification in sports officiating preferred or ability to obtain within two years of employment.
  • Certified First Aid and CPR/AED or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire date.
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional preferred.
Responsibilities

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of Milwaukee Recreations adult and 50+ sports leagues.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates part-time staff and game officials.
  • Arranges, coordinates and conducts preseason team manager and sports officials meetings.
  • Manages indoor and outdoor facility reservations for all programs.
  • Adheres to internal building facility use guidelines and fosters relationships with building operations staff.
  • Assists in developing, and monitoring program budgets.
  • Assesses the quality and effectiveness of programs and services.
  • Develops evaluation tools for existing programs; updates program offerings to align with current/relevant trends and community needs.
  • Assists in developing short and long-term programming goals.
  • Manages all adult sports social media accounts.
  • Works with Milwaukee Recreation Marketing Team to promote sports programs and services to the public.
  • Manages equipment inventory; arranges for the purchase of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with Recreation Department activities as needed.
  • Serves on various community or Department committees as required and/or assigned.
  • Actively supports the MPS Five Priorities for Success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
