About the Job

Responsibilities:
25% - Assist pathologists, residents, and other necropsy staff with necropsies and tissue
processing

30% - Assist in daily Necropsy section duties (histopathology processing, Rabies virus processing, sample inventories and organization, etc.)

15% - Assist with operation of the tissue digester. Collect organic tissue waste to dispose of in the alkaline tissue digester

15% - Perform daily, weekly, and monthly lab maintenance, cleaning, and disinfection of lab surfaces, spaces, tools, and equipment in accordance with section SOPs

5% - Quality Assurance - employee is trained in the VDL Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedures (according to the VDL Quality and System Policy Manuals); performs procedures according to existing QA/AC standards, maintains accurate documentation of QA/AC activities, and participates in corrective/preventive actions when they occur

5% - Participate in lab safety plan created by the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. Occupational health vaccinations, immunizations, and trainings are required within 6 weeks of being hired.

5% - Other duties as assigned

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:
BA/BS degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years. BS in biology, animal science or related sciences degree. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of veterinary anatomy, autopsy/necropsy experience, vet tech certificate

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $27.21 - $27.21/hr, depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment

Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff
