Role Description:

The Procurement, Goods & Services Intern will assist in the development, management, and execution of Requests for Quotes (RFQs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs), as well as the subsequent contract negotiation and award processes for Goods & Services contracts. The intern will also help manage existing contract modifications, prepare documentation for Committee and Board of Director approvals, and conduct market research to identify potential vendors. This role provides an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain hands-on experience in procurement, sourcing, and contract management.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Your essential functions include, but are not limited to:



  • Assist in developing, implementing, and managing sourcing strategies to support DC Water's objectives, improve efficiency, and generate cost savings.
  • Support the sourcing and contracting process by developing business and technical requirements, evaluating the total cost of ownership, analyzing proposals, and conducting supplier assessments.
  • Assist in contract negotiations and the execution of Goods & Services contracts, ensuring compliance with terms and organizational goals.
  • Manage existing contract modifications and assist in preparing required documentation for internal approvals from committees and the Board of Directors.
  • Conduct market research to identify potential vendors and evaluate the viability of suppliers based on market trends and supplier capabilities.
  • Help maintain relationships with internal customers, ensuring that procurement strategies are aligned with current and future needs.
  • Advise on procurement policies, procedures, and contract interpretation, ensuring compliance with DC Water's procurement guidelines.
  • Promote and support supplier diversity initiatives by fostering an inclusive and diverse vendor supplier base.

Skills & Qualifications:

Required Skills & Qualifications



Required Experience:
Experience in sourcing and contracting or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Exposure to developing and implementing sourcing strategies.
Basic understanding of the RFP process, proposal evaluation, and contract negotiations.
Minimum Education Requirements:
Must be currently enrolled fulltime in an undergraduate or graduate program
Must have at least 30 credit hours complete
Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average
Required Skills:
Strong sourcing, contract negotiation, and contract management skills.
Ability to manage programs and projects effectively.
Excellent communication skills, both interpersonal and written, for effective stakeholder engagement.
Strong analytical and planning abilities for problem-solving, cost/spend analysis, and identifying sourcing opportunities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications



Preferred Experience:
Experience with Oracle, specifically in developing contract documents.
Familiarity with procurement software and tools used in sourcing, contract management, and vendor relationships.
Preferred Education Requirements:
Preferred Majors: Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Purchasing, Business Administration.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with developing and managing RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs.
Supplier management skills, including evaluating vendor performance and maintaining vendor relationships.
