The Occupational Safety Intern will support the Safety department in various initiatives, including coordinating safety training, conducting safety inspections, and creating reports for hazardous waste management. The intern will also assist in the creation of fire books, support evacuation drills, and help organize Safety Day events for all DC Water employees. This role provides an opportunity to build safety knowledge through OSHA, ANSI, Compliance, FEMA, and other safety-related programs, while actively contributing to employee safety and training.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: |
As a summer Intern, we will provide you with:

- Performance of other work-related duties as needed
Your essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Safety Inspections & Audits: Assist in conducting field and facilities inspections to ensure safety standards and regulations are met.
- Safety Training Coordination: Support the coordination and scheduling of safety training sessions for employees, ensuring training materials are up-to-date.
- Hazardous Waste Reporting: Help create and maintain reports related to hazardous waste management, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Fire Book Creation: Assist in the creation and maintenance of fire books, ensuring emergency procedures are clear and accessible.
- Evacuation Drills: Support the planning and execution of evacuation drills, ensuring proper safety protocols are followed.
- Safety Day Assistance: Assist in organizing and executing Safety Day events, aimed at promoting safety awareness for all employees.

Required Experience: |
Experience in safety-related tasks or a similar administrative role |
Basic knowledge of safety regulations, including OSHA, ANSI, or other compliance standards |
Experience working in an office or field environment supporting safety operations |
Minimum Education Requirements: |
Must be currently enrolled fulltime in an undergraduate or graduate program |
Must have at least 30 credit hours complete |
Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average |
Required Skills: |
Strong organizational and time-management skills |
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation. |
Strong written and verbal communication skills |
Attention to detail, especially in safety documentation and compliance reporting |
