The Ideal Candidate

This sales position is responsible for participating in the achievement of assigned sales and profitability goals for Johnston and Murphy's products and the development and execution of territory business plans.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Delivers topline and profitability expectations for Johnston and Murphy's retail partners.
  • Pioneering new distribution with women's footwear.
  • Coordinates growth of the territory to ensure achievement of defined sales goals and to ensure that Johnston & Murphy's distribution plan is effectively administered.
  • Maximizes effective account service by visiting store doors on a frequent and planned basis.
  • Manages inventory and provides in-store service (trunk shows, seminars, and displays) and ensures effective follow through on all initiatives.
  • Develops recommended business plans, product assortments, and replenishment covering all appropriate categories and customer usages.
  • Establishes, develops, and maintains relationships within the territory doors' buying structures and store organizations.
  • Communicates regularly with Johnston & Murphy management and customer service departments regarding market, product, and account needs.


Experience and Skills You'll Need to Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in business or related field of study preferred
  • 4+ year's experience in wholesale sales covering key markets within Eastern U.S.
  • Strong knowledge of the women's better/premium footwear industry
  • Strong relationships with key independents and specialty retailers in key markets (Eastern U.S.)
  • Women's footwear product expertise
  • Effective business management skills
  • Professional communication skills (written, oral, presentation)
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Must be able to negotiate
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Proficient with various software applications including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and build effective working relationships
  • Must be flexible
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Management of frequent overnight travel, at times 3-4 days per week within territory
  • Occasional weekends are required
