The Ergonomic Specialist performs ergonomic assessments as part of the Department's reasonable accommodation program, ensuring that employees have workspaces designed to meet their ergonomic needs and prevent workplace injuries. This position supports both in-office and remote evaluations, working with various Department staff to ensure safety, comfort, and productivity through ergonomic design and modifications.

This position requires an active Top Secret clearance or the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance to be considered.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Ergonomic Specialist: Negotiable

Pay commensurate with experience.

Ergonomic Specialist Responsibilities Include:



  • Conduct individual ergonomic assessments for Department employees, identifying risks and recommending adjustments to workspaces to improve safety and efficiency.
  • Prepare detailed ergonomic evaluation reports, outlining assessment findings, recommended adjustments, and follow-up actions.
  • Provide consultation on ergonomic equipment needs and assist in the selection and procurement of ergonomic devices and furniture.
  • Deliver ergonomic training sessions to Department employees, including best practices for workstation setup and posture.
  • Collaborate with the Reasonable Accommodations Division (DRAD) and Human Resources to develop tailored ergonomic solutions for employees with disabilities, ensuring compliance with the Rehabilitation Act and ADA.
  • Support new facility design projects by providing ergonomic recommendations to promote safe and accessible work environments.
  • There may be periods when there are no needed ergonomic assessments. Administrative functions may be assigned to assist the scope of reasonable accommodation requests. When this occurs, these duties are secondary and may never take priority over the requisite ergonomic assessments. The Ergonomic Specialist may be asked to assist with administrative functions when not assigned to assess an employee.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned


Ergonomic Specialist Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:



  • A Bachelor's degree in Ergonomics, Occupational Health, Kinesiology, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is desirable.
  • Completion of specific training in workplace ergonomic assessment techniques, risk analysis, and ergonomic intervention strategies is desirable.
  • Advanced knowledge of ergonomic assessment techniques and familiarity with current ergonomic standards and guidelines.
  • Strong report-writing skills to clearly communicate ergonomic recommendations and actionable steps.
  • Experience with ergonomic equipment and an understanding of various workplace modifications for people with disabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with employees, management, and medical personnel regarding ergonomic needs.
  • Experience in an ergonomic or occupational health role, with previous experience in a federal or large organizational setting desirable.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
