Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose |
Working under general supervision, the Custodian Group II Lead is responsible for more complex tasks in one or more areas generally associated with the maintenance of campus facilities. |
Essential Functions |
- Services, cleans, sanitizes, and supplies restrooms.
- Gathers and transports trash.
- Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
- Clean walls, windows, mirrors, and other surfaces.
- Cleans and polishes furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
- Unlocks buildings, turns lights on/off, and reports security and/or building deficiencies to supervisor/lead person.
- Steam clean shampoos or bonnet carpets. Strip, seals, finishes and polishes floors.
- Moves and arranges furniture.
- Sets up, arranges, and removes tables, chairs, and related items for events and meetings.
- Follows procedures for the safe use of chemical cleaners and equipment and notifies supervisor or manager of needed supplies or equipment.
- Operates more complex machinery and equipment that requires training and experience to develop proficiency.
- Provides direction, duty assignments, and training to other custodial staff members.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications |
- One (1) year experience in custodial or related work.

Preferred Qualifications |
Skills/Knowledge and Expertise:
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and direct staff.
- Proven ability to operate more complex machinery.
- Ability to learn and adhere to University procedures involving the handling and use of cleaning agents, potentially hazardous materials and various cleaning tools and equipment.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work is performed in various environments, including but not limited to classrooms, offices, residence halls, gymnasiums and my require work to be performed both in and out of doors in a variety of weather conditions. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crawling, and kneeling. Occasional reaching overhead and crouching. May be required to lift/carry, push/pull up to 25 lbs. Frequent repetitive use of hands. Frequent grasping of objects. May be exposed to hazardous materials.
Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Ability and willingness to work weekends and various shifts.
Requires Asbestos physical and Respiratory Fit Testing.
Union membership required.
Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record. |
Hiring Range |
$22.44 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. |
