The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College invites applications for our Nursing Educational Specialist position. Job Overview
The Educational Specialist's responsibilities include clinical coordination with agency partners, as well as support of nursing lab and clinical simulation. The Educational Specialist reports to the Nursing Department Chairperson. This is a full-time 12-month professional staff position.
Essential Functions
1. Clinical coordination responsibilities:
- Responsible for maintaining and overseeing the existing clinical agency contracts and assists the Chairperson in initiating new clinical agency contracts.
- Work with Program Coordinator to request and track clinical requests submitted through clinical placement software and sends letters for clinical requests to agencies not utilizing the software systems.
- Collaborate with Chairperson and circulate to course faculty approved clinical placements.
- Provide Chairperson and teaching teams with communication regarding the clinical agency placements and contact persons each semester.
- Coordinate on-going scheduling of clinical learning experiences for nursing courses in the first and second year of the curriculum in consultation with the Chairperson and course faculty.
- Act as contact person for clinical agencies used by the respective nursing courses.
- Represent nursing department at clinical agency meetings as delegated by the Chairperson.
- Assist faculty committee in clinical adjunct faculty orientation. Assist clinical adjunct faculty with specific agency preparation for clinical as needed.
- Verify that all critical requirement items are submitted and accurate from each student in the nursing program.
Additional Essential Functions
2. Laboratory and simulation responsibilities:
- Coordinate utilization of nursing skills lab; prepare calendars that provide for maximum utilization of the laboratory facilities in collaboration with nursing program faculty; maintain lab in readiness for independent practice of skills and skill demonstrations; assure needed equipment and materials are available for skill demonstrations, practice, and college labs. Be available to students during scheduled open lab hours to demonstrate and assist with skill practice.
- Assist faculty and students with demonstration, practice, remediation, reinforcement, review, skill and clinical make-up days, and simulation in skills lab. Receive referrals from faculty regarding students needing review/practice of skills and communicate feedback of performance of referred students.
- Assist the simulation coordinator as needed to proctor patient care simulations for clinical skill acquisition appropriate to and concurrent with specific course content.
- Maintain the lab in a manner, which fosters implementation of program's philosophy and curriculum.
- Coordinate the interviewing and recommend for hiring clinical adjunct.
- Assure skills lab experiences reflect best practice; maintain knowledge of major trends and innovations in clinical practice, including simulation.
- Collaborate with faculty in identifying laboratory needs and supplies for college and simulation laboratories.
- Submit requests for supplies and equipment, maintenance, and repair of equipment; collaborate with chairperson in the budgetary process. As well as assure currency of the lab, equipment needs and engage in future planning.

Required Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
Required Trainings/Certifications
Current license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Ohio or a Multistate License through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
Required Experience
Three (3) years of clinical nursing experience, including at least two (2) years of hands-on patient care

- A Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited program
