This role is a Hybrid model with 3-4 days on-site per week expected between the Upper Merion and Upper Providence GSK Sites.

Global Supply Chain (GSC) Research and Development (R&D) Engineering Services provides Operations and Facilities Management and Capital Projects delivery for Technical R&D sites within GSC's Engineering and EHS organization.

This role will provide ongoing engineering support to R&D Engineering Services Operations, responsible for Facilities Services and Capital Projects program management. This will include the development and improvement of processes that support the operational delivery model and interfaces with other GSK functions, service partners and other 3rd party providers.

The purpose of this role is to support the Industrial Control systems at the Pennsylvania sites (Upper Providence and Upper Merion) as well as provide hands on Automation engineering support, wherever is required to assist site Operations and capital projects. The role will manage consistent execution and ensure compliance within Automation and OT Security engineering programs across the site through provision of engineering and project management skills. You will work to ensure they are aligned to the local needs and priorities of the business, and to ensure that cost, quality and compliance metrics are achieved by key contract partners.

The position will be responsible for regional compliance to external licensing and statutory requirements for engineering services provided by R&D Engineering Services.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Provide technical leadership in support of site automation systems and network infrastructure and be the primary GSK Technical Authority for all the Industrial Control Systems (ICS) at UPP/UPM sites. (Technical Authority covers duties ranging from asset registration to user access management).

  • Conduct site management monitoring tasks and site GEMBAs to ensure service partner and 3rd party contractor works are being carried out in compliance with national, local, and GSK standards with a focus on Alarm Management.

  • Take leadership and work with the site Service Partner (SP) to improve the overall support model for the ICS systems at the 2 sites in the PA region.

  • Have oversight of all the small capital projects which have an impact to Automation/OT systems. Ensure the GSK Automation and OT Cyber Security standards are applied. Have oversight/input of the commissioning/testing applied in each project to meet the standards.

  • Ensure Automation facilities and equipment are maintained and installed to meet site requirements. Provide day-to-day automation support for operation areas on site. Approve Business Impact Assessments and engineering Automation Change Controls.

  • Work closely with the above site OT Security Manager to reduce the OT Cybersecurity risk for the site as well as the obsolescence risks related to ICS/Automation/OT systems. This includes maintaining standardized OT Security tools/solutions provided by GSK to assist operations (e.g. repository for passwords storage, automated user access management tool, etc..) and executing remediation plans from policy gap assessments. Escalate risks and/or conflicts with local customer's ways of working.

  • To undertake small process improvement projects to the existing automated systems and processes.

  • Technical author/approver of local processes & procedures and ensure compliance with applicable GSK policies and procedures.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science related field

  • 3 plus years' experience in supporting Automation/ICS/OT systems (Building Management/Automation System (BMS/BAS), SCADA, PLC, HMI, Servo, Vision, Field Instrumentation)

  • Experience interpreting electrical wiring diagrams and P&ID nomenclature

  • Experience delivering automation-based improvement projects.

  • Experience managing contractor/consulting staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Experience working within Automation or Operations at life science (pharmaceutical) Manufacturing and/or R&D sites in a regulated industry (exposed to GxP & EHS requirements)

  • Experience with facility operations (off-the-shelf facilities equipment such as HVAC systems, Boilers, Chillers, Electrical/Water Metering systems, Power Management systems, etc..)

  • Expertise in Rockwell automation platforms (Studio5000, FactoryTalk, etc)

  • Proven experience with industrial networks (e.g. Profibus, Fieldbus, Ethernet, Modbus, Bacnet and Serial comms 485, RS232 etc.)

  • Experience in commissioning/validation of ICS/Automation systems

  • Experience in systems/account administration, network design, and server troubleshooting is strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of Automation standards (ISA-88, ISA-95 and IEC1131) and of Operational Technology Cyber Security Standards (ISA/IEC 62443)
