Description

Save the Children

For over 100 years, Save the Children has been fighting for the rights of children. The right to a healthy start in life. To have access to education. To be in a safe environment, protected from harm. We work in some of the world's hardest-to-reach places - over 100 countries, including the U.S. No matter what your role is, when you join Save the Children, you're creating positive, irreversible change for children, and the future we all share.

The Role

As the Senior Advisor, Humanitarian Partnerships, you'll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. You will lead efforts to maximize private sector support for the Children's Emergency Fund, to ensure ongoing resources for Save the Children's emergency preparedness and response efforts and our growing work in fragile settings. This includes developing key messaging and humanitarian fundraising strategies for foundations, corporate partners, and high-net worth individuals. You will work with content experts to develop visual assets to be shared with donors through multiple channels-as well as responsible for working with internal communication teams to develop branded, highly engaging emergency fact sheets, proposals and reports. This will include developing regular communications updating CEF donors that emphasize strong visuals and outline CEF's impact. In this capacity, this role will work with fundraising teams to identify new markets and partnership models that will grow the agency's emergency response revenue.

Location

On site - Washington DC, Fairfield, CT or Lexington, KY office locations

What You'll Be Doing (Essential Duties)*

  • Drive efforts to optimize private fundraising effectiveness and speed-to-market for international/domestic emergency responses and fragile settings in collaboration with humanitarian colleagues (40%)

    • Consult with fundraising leaders to assess media coverage and private fundraising viability at emergency onset and help implement the appropriate course of action for prioritizing private sector outreach.
    • In the initial stages of the response(s), work alongside the Senior Director to streamline communication between the global humanitarian team and the Partnerships & Philanthropy Division to drive more effective collaboration.
    • Lead the development of fundraising content and strategy based on best practices to ensure fundraisers effectively communicate with their respective constituencies (mass market, foundations, corporate and high-net worth individuals). This includes preparing/customizing talking points and fact sheets drawn from information on sitreps and working group meetings; reviewing and revising existing content to appeal to a wider external audience; ensuring our website has the latest fact sheets and visual content; and keeping knowledge management systems updated.

  • Advise fundraisers on how to develop increased funding and stewardship opportunities for the Children's Emergency Fund (40%)

    • Assess current Children's Emergency Fund retention and conversion rates and come up with strategies to increase that figure.
    • Work with new business and existing account managers to assess CEF funding opportunities aligned with humanitarian-context responses and priorities.
    • Facilitate and foster donor strategy discussion for key accounts and monitor pipeline activities and link to program and advocacy teams to develop compelling cases for CEF support and stewardship and retention needs.
    • Champion the strategic use of resources (i.e., microsites, donor roundtables, workplace giving) that will provide an experiential link to Save the Children's emergency response programs and will provide a full range of donor engagement opportunities.

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director on top private sector funding priorities for rapid onset, protracted and chronic emergencies (20%)

    • Stay current on the evolution of the private sector landscape and giving trends for emergency responses based on competitive mapping and internal stakeholder feedback. Provide strategic guidance for compelling, standout emergency campaigns and communications.
    • Benchmark Save the Children performance against peer organizations to identify actions needed to increase our competitive position.
    • Strategize opportunities with private, public and/or peer organizations for collaborative partnerships to support all phases of humanitarian response efforts.
    • Address complex problems as they arise, including how best to accommodate donor preferences for their gifts and how to effectively track new raise for both rapid onset emergencies and protracted fragile settings. Share lessons learned from addressing these scenarios with peers on the Philanthropy Operations team and across the broader division to increase our efficiency and effectiveness.
