The Statler Hotel in the S.C. Johnson College of Business at Cornell University announces an opportunity for a Pastry Extern to join the Food & Beverage team in our main kitchen. The successful candidate would be someone enrolled in a culinary degree program at a college or university outside of Cornell.

As a member of the Statler Hotel's Culinary Team, the Pastry Intern is responsible for:

  • Working with pastry team to complete the daily and weekly prep and production for the pastry department.
  • With Supervision can prepare a full variety of baked goods including rolls, breads, cakes, cookies, pastries, and various other desserts and check pars of items against the prep list.
  • Assists in Creating personalized cakes utilizing multiple methods of decorating: fondant, piping techniques, artistry and sculpture
  • Setting up work station
  • Monitoring temperatures of all prepared foods, and record them as required
  • Supporting other team members when able
  • Maintain efficient time management and productivity during slow periods throughout the shift
  • Cleaning work area and storing all food after each shift or when needed or directed to by supervisor
  • Filling out prep lists, closing the shift while adhering to operating standards
  • Maintaining a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
  • Reporting to the Sous Chef/Manager

We are a 4 diamond hotel and our goal is to provide the highest quality experience for our guests at The Statler Hotel

Required Qualifications

* High School Diploma or equivalent

* Understanding of cooking methods and procedures, and knife handling skills

* Ability to perform tasks with accuracy, speed, and attention to detail

* Ability to read and follow cooking directions

* Ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment

* Must be organized and self-motivated

* Must be able to stand, bend, stretch, and lift, and carry heavy materials
