About Admissions

The Enrollment and Admissions team at Cornell Tech is charged with attracting, selecting, and matriculating the highest caliber of diverse students into the campus' graduate programs. Reporting to the Director of Enrollment and Admissions, we seek an experienced Assistant Director to play a critical role in growing and evolving the enrollment management strategy at Cornell Tech. Although this role's primary focus is on serving as a technical and operations leader for the unit's MBA program, they will also support these activities across all master's degree programs as needed.

Enrollment representatives within Cornell's colleges, schools, and units regularly collaborate and partner with the Enrollment Division to accomplish the University's enrollment goals.

Position Summary

The selected candidate will have very strong organizational skills and follow-through as well as the ability to work collaboratively across teams. The candidate should have a clear understanding of, or the ability to understand, higher education issues, and commitment to excellence and customer service. A commitment to and evidence of designing and implementing marketing and recruitment strategies to attract and enroll a diverse student population. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, preferably in the context of working with student populations, is required. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and multi-task in a high-paced team environment and meet deadlines. Requires the ability to work independently and take initiative. Ability to negotiate and advocate effectively and tactfully. Ability to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining confidentiality and discretion. Some recruitment travel is expected including some weekends and evenings.

The Assistant Director of Enrollment and Admissions, as a member of the Admissions Committee, will work with faculty to ensure effective evaluation of applications, interviews and recommendations for admissions decisions. Additionally, the Assistant Director is responsible for providing insight and guidance on selection, scholarships and yield, as well as coordinating and assessing admissions criteria to develop an effective recruiting plan. The individual in this role will assist in the creation and implementation of marketing efforts via event planning, digital initiatives including social media campaigns via various platforms including LinkedIn and Twitter, information sessions and alumni engagement, intended to cultivate and matriculate the incoming class. Some travel is required along with evening and weekend hours.

The Assistant Director will be responsible for creating statistical reports, modeling and projecting application volume in collaboration with the Director. The Assistant Director will be responsible for knowledge of the admission database system, data management and extraction for reporting.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position located at the Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island in New York City. Currently, Tech staff work a hybrid schedule with 3 days a week on campus. Flexible work arrangements are subject to change. Some travel is required along with evening and weekend hours.

Starting salary range: $68,445 - $77,280

Essential Functions Include

Admissions Processing - 35%

  • Assist the Director in long-range admissions planning
  • Work with faculty to ensure effective evaluation of applications, interviews and recommendations for admissions decisions; act as a member of the Admissions Committee
  • Work collaboratively with associate deans and faculty program directors to oversee the operations of the admissions process, ensuring excellence in organization and communication of admissions policies.
  • Demonstrate understanding and operate in alignment with university policies and procedures to ensure legal and ethical admissions operations.

Recruiting - 35%

  • Assist in developing strategies to recruit students
  • Provide insight and guidance on selection, scholarships and yield, as well as coordinating and assessing admissions criteria to develop an effective recruiting plan in alignment with Cornell University strategic enrollment goals
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of marketing strategies. Develop marketing materials related to event planning, digital initiatives including social media campaigns via various platforms including LinkedIn and Twitter, information sessions and alumni engagement, intended to cultivate and matriculate the incoming class.
  • Some travel is required along with evening and weekend hours;
  • Conduct and manage MBA interview process including coordination with faculty and alumni volunteers.
  • Create and manage MBA recruitment travel schedule
  • Demonstrate understanding and operate in alignment with university policies and procedures to ensure legal and ethical admissions operations.

Data Management and Reporting - 20%

  • Create, analyze and maintain current data sets for admissions-related, student recruitment and current student data to align key metrics of student outcomes;
  • Create, analyze and maintain enrollment & student data dashboards via SLATE that measure progress on key metrics and goals;
  • Create and analyze statistical reports, modeling and projecting application volume in collaboration with the Director. The Assistant Director will be responsible for knowledge of the admission database system, data management and extraction for reporting.
  • Demonstrate understanding and operate in compliance with federal, state and university data privacy and security regulations, policies, and best practices relating to the access and use of student records.

As needed support to other departments and other position-related responsibilities - 10%

  • Cultivate relationships and collaborate with other academic units at the university, college and department levels which includes but is not limited to Institutional Research and Planning (IRP), Cornell Information Technologies (CIT), College of Engineering (COE), Computing and Information Science (CIS), S.C. Johnson School of Management, and Cornell Law School to maintain effective reporting capability;
  • Provide support to other members of the admissions team and other functional areas including admissions processing and event support and other duties as assigned
  • Participate in projects or other duties as assigned with occasional work responsibility falling above or below current classification.
  • Completion of any university required compliance trainings.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of applicable professional experience in data science, higher education or research administration may be considered.
  • Experience with quantitative, market-based approach to planning recruitment activities and exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience developing new tools for capturing and evaluating data, and ability to effectively communicate data analysis results to a diverse audience.
  • Strong analytical skills in data management; a thorough understanding of how to gather, codify and analyze data to create reports and projections to inform management decision-making; proven technical skills
  • In-depth experience in data integrity and the implementation and usage of systems which store, process and retrieve data
  • Familiarity within an academic and/or research environment
  • The ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion
  • Demonstrated track record of taking initiative, being proactive, and remaining flexible and resilient.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color.
  • Experience working with diversity, equity, inclusion, and wellbeing programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant or related field; and/or additional work experience is preferred.
  • Professional experience in the higher education and/or admissions and recruitment context, particularly in technical graduate programs, is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Experience with SLATE or other CRM as well as experience managing social media campaigns via various platforms including LinkedIn and Twitter is preferred.
