In the plan to create a new hub for mRNA-based vaccine discovery in Cambridge, we are building new laboratories that will be focused on the development of state-of-the-art methods that will be supporting deep product understanding, process and product development, as well as testing of pre-clinical and clinical samples for new mRNA-based vaccines.

As a Principal Scientist, you will be expected to lead and conduct advanced research in the field of RNA vaccines, contributing to the development of innovative vaccine solutions.

The successful applicant may spend 3-4 months within the first year of hire in Rockville, MD to support and guarantee a smooth transition of methods and know-how to the new laboratories in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and conduct advanced research in the field of RNA vaccines, including design, synthesis, and characterization of mRNA vaccines utilizing expertise in RNA biology and virology and new cutting-edge technologies to design best-in-class RNA-based vaccines
• Develop and optimize protocols for RNA synthesis and in vitro/in vivo testing of RNA vaccines.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research findings into vaccine development and guide selection of new vaccine platforms
• Possesses strong scientific leadership to enable collaboration with key scientific internal and external stakeholders.
• Stay updated with the latest scientific advancements in the field of RNA vaccines and incorporate relevant findings into research.
• Publish research findings in high-impact scientific journals and present at international conferences.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards in the development and testing of RNA vaccines.
• Mentor junior scientists and research associates, fostering a culture of scientific excellence.

Basic Qualifications:

• Ph.D. degree plus at least 2 years of experience or master's with at least 5 years of experience in RNA virology, RNA biology or related scientific discipline
• Two or more years of experience in molecular and cellular biology
• Two or more years of experience in RNA viruses or RNA biology and in an area of virology
• Two or more years of hands-on experience in current technologies supporting the interrogation of nucleic acid research

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience with RNA based vaccines or therapeutics
• Prior experience in RNA nanotechnology and sequence engineering for RNA-based vaccines or therapeutics
• Experience on RNA structure design, RNA folding and structural elements, RNA synthesis and purification
• Strong track-record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, with at least 2 first author research manuscripts
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Basic skills in statistical analysis
• Fluency in English, spoken and written
