Responsibilities

Project Overview:The Department of Defense (DoD) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is a United States initiative aimed at encouraging small businesses to participate in federal research and development (R&D) projects with strong commercialization potential. The program stimulates technological innovation, addresses critical DoD needs, supports small businesses, and promotes the commercialization of developed solutions. The DoD SBIR portal leverages cutting-edge cloud infrastructure technologies to provide users with robust confidentiality, integrity, and availability, ensuring a secure and reliable platform for program operations.

Position Overview:We are in search of an experienced Cloud Engineer with a profound understanding of AWS cloud technologies, which encompass AWS services and a strong understanding of Linux Operating System. Any knowledge of Web Administration tools such as Apache and Tomcat would be advantageous. Furthermore, candidates with expertise in cybersecurity, DevSecOps, and a background in software engineering will be particularly valuable. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in a long-term federal contract alongside other AWS cloud experts.

Responsibilities

    Collaborate within a team of Cloud, DevSecOps, Database, and cybersecurity engineers to support a substantial federal Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) system.
  • The ideal candidate should possess the capability to independently administer and troubleshoot an AWS cloud infrastructure, ensuring the application's availability for 99.9% of the time.
  • Exhibit proficiency in understanding and crafting CloudFormation Templates.
  • Uphold and disseminate best practices for cloud performance measurement, migration, and implementation, aligning with current industry trends.
  • Showcase knowledge of modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash, JavaScript, Java, etc.).
  • Possess a solid working knowledge of DevSecOps engineering, tools, and technologies, including Kubernetes, Jenkins, SonarQube, among others.
  • Demonstrate the capacity to rapidly learn and master innovative technologies.
  • Leverage strong leadership skills to make research-based decisions supported by comprehensive alternative analysis.
  • Exhibit an in-depth understanding of AWS, cloud-native system development, and contemporary software architecture to facilitate the efficient creation of stable, scalable, and resilient applications.
  • Offer expertise in operationalized metrics and site reliability engineering.
  • Be prepared to undertake additional professional duties, as necessary.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience in developing and supporting CI/CD pipelines using open-source tools such as Jenkins, SonarQube, Artifactory/Nexus, and Selenium.

  • At least 3 years working with AWS, including expertise in the implementation and effective utilization of AWS EKS, S3, KMS, Secrets Manager, API Gateway, CloudFront, Security Groups, and Network Access Control Lists (NACLs).

  • Proficiency in UNIX/LINUX operating system, tools/utilities, shell scripting, and fundamental administration skills.

  • Experience and a deep understanding of principles and best practices for implementing Infrastructure as Code, CFT, Ansible, and Docker.

  • Familiarity with the implementation of FISMA compliance security controls, including compliance with CIS benchmarks.

  • Practical experience with federal agency or enterprise-level cloud strategy and implementation.

  • Proficiency in cloud procurements, migrations, optimizations, and performance measurements.

Requirement Certifications:

  • Security+ Certification.

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field with 3 years of relevant experience.

Clearance: Due to federal contract requirements, U.S. citizenship is required. Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Location: Hybrid (1 Day per week in our Sterling, VA HQ)
