Job Summary

Under the direction of the Client Engineering Supervisor, the Client Engineering Systems Administrator will lead and support the Information Technology MDM/EUC (Modern Device Management / End User Computing) needs of all UCDH departments utilizing Microsoft Intune / WorkspaceOne. The incumbent provides advanced level hardware, software, and network support to UCDH staff/faculty. Incumbent has responsibility for managing large, complex, and/or unique projects that affect/impact multiple departments that may include testing/recommending new technologies. Implementing specialized departmental applications, and leading other technical support staff in projects.

This person must work with full independence and decision-making responsibility under limited direction and act as a lead to all IT Client Services team members and the project team members. Incumbent acts as department's liaison with clinical departments, clinics, IT Security, vendors, clinical engineering, research, education, and all other departments throughout the Health System.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Senior MDM WorkspaceOne or Microsoft Intune Endpoint Enterprise Engineer in a large organization with 5,000 endpoints or more.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience managing a Horizon or Azure VDI infrastructure.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience supporting Microsoft Intune or WorkspaceOne Configuration Service Providers (CSP's), Active Directory Group Policy Objects, and security policies, with extensive experience in a large-scale enterprise environment.
  • Experience supporting and maintaining Center for Internet Security (CIS), and/or National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and/or Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG), and/or other similar industry security standards for Windows operating systems and web browsers
  • Expert level experience troubleshooting Modern Device Management Intune or WorkspaceOne CSP's and Active Directory Group Policies.
  • Experience Deploying or maintaining Microsoft Intune/ WorkspaceOne Autopilot/Auto Provisioning.
  • Experience working with technical teams and stakeholders for endpoint architecture and solutions design to meet business needs.
  • Experience supporting Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) systems in an enterprise environment (e.g. Imprivata, Duo, Microsoft MFA, etc.).
  • Experience supporting Single Sign-On (SSO) systems in an enterprise environment (e.g. Imprivata, etc.).
  • Experience working with Active Directory Users and Computers.
  • Experience supporting Windows and or Macintosh clients in an enterprise environment of 5,000 or more.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with complex enterprise environments and leading large-scale deployments.
  • Must possess strong ability and experience developing sound and effective project plans and successfully executing them.
  • Must possess strong ability to develop, forecast, deliver, and manage clear and realistic budget plans.
  • Must possess excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Must possess skills to motivate and lead direct staff from other teams working on projects and initiatives.
  • Must possess technical and analytical skills to effectively comprehend complex technical problems; and the ability to make timely and thoughtful decisions.
  • Must possess working knowledge of hardware, software and desktop applications as it relates to desktops, laptops, thin clients, mobile devices, printers, multi-function devices, scanners, Windows-on-Wheels carts (WOW), etc.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, organize the work of others and meet deadlines.
  • Experience supporting IT systems in an enterprise environment consisting of 2,000 or more customers.
  • Must possess strong ability to understand business objectives and align the team to meet those objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in endpoint management in a large organization.
  • 2+ years experience managing a Horizon or Azure VDI infrastructure.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing Microsoft Intune or WorkspaceOne solutions.
  • Experience as a technical team lead
  • Experience managing multiple information technology projects (within the healthcare industry is highly preferred).
  • Experience supporting VMware Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM).
  • Experience supporting local information technology hardware and software, including mobile devices and wireless networking.
  • Experience supporting, maintaining, and deploying Office 365.
  • Ability to work effectively with clinical, administrative, and executive staff, always displaying a courteous and professional attitude.
  • Ability to collaborate and effectively participate with others both within and outside of IT.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical problems in simple terms to customers and staff members.
  • Ability to research, plan, test, document and resolve technical problems.
  • Ability to be creative and apply innovative concepts to problem resolution.
  • Ability to assimilate new technologies and develop new skills or enhance existing skills by utilizing technical manuals, journals, books, newsgroups, vendor documentation. and other written media.
  • Demonstrated skills to plan, design, write, edit, maintain, use, and teach complex technical documentation and instructions for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated excellent skills to perform, document, and manage problem resolution, escalations, and notification policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment to effectively provide technical support and consulting services to clients via telephone, email, and in-person.
  • Ability to diplomatically give and receive directions, information and knowledge to and from other team members, clients, managers, and other University students, staff, faculty, and affiliates.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for interactions with vendors, faculty, staff, students, and affiliates.
  • Demonstrated ability to absorb complex technical concepts and effectively translate them into clear, accessible terms for non-technical clients, ensuring their understanding and facilitating learning.
  • Ability to support Windows networking and file sharing in multiple domain and Active Directory environments.
  • Ability to provide support for Windows operating system-level firewall technology.
  • Knowledge of IP networking and DNS, with ability to effectively troubleshoot DNS issues.
  • Experience with DHCP, PPP, and Ethernet protocols.
  • Ability to support network connectivity in a complex network environment.
  • Ability to learn the UC Davis campus network infrastructure, including the overall topology and services, and apply that learning to client support activities.
  • Ability to facilitate/manage meetings, including the development of meeting agendas.

Department Overview

UC Davis Health (UCDH) Information Technology accomplishes planning and implementation activities to service the Health System's needs for teaching, clinical high-quality patient care, and research. The Client Services support team is responsible for deployment, maintenance, lifecycle management, troubleshooting, and support for client devices (Desktops, Laptops, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, Mobile Devices, Printers, Multi-Function Devices, Scanners, Carts, etc.) and their connectivity to the network, the applications, and the databases as well as locally installed business productivity applications.
