Student Worker - Social Media Assistant

Hourly Rate: $15.00

This position is a on-campus, part-time, up-to 19-hour, student appointment based in Champaign, Illinois.

Student employment positions
are part-time,19 hour-or-less per week, temporary/seasonal appointments. Some
positions may require federal work study. The work schedule is dependent upon
departmental needs and employee's availability, typically work hours are between
8 AM - 5 PM, Monday through Friday. The Part-Time Social Media Assistant
is passionate about social media, especially short-form video content. This
role is primarily responsible for helping develop and edit written content,
digital images, and videos for the Parkland College social channels under the
guidance of the Social Media Manager in the office of Marketing and Public
Relations at Parkland College.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Strategize with Social Media Manager and the rest of Marketing and Public Relations office to create short-form videos and graphics for social media
  • Capture content at campus-based student events including sports, Parkland Presents events, wellness activities, and Student Life-sponsored events
  • Collaborate with the Social Media Manager and Student Talent pool to create authentic and engaging content for college social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok)
  • Participate in student photoshoots and video opportunities for annual enrollment campaigns as a brand ambassador
  • Operate office equipment, such as copiers, PCs, and/or phone systems.
  • Work independently and efficiently.
  • May assist with special projects, research, and events.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Meet all eligibility requirements for student employment as determined by Financial Aid. Some positions may require Federal Work Study.
  • Ability to learn how to operate standard office equipment, computer systems, and office iOS mobile devices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person. Excellent spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Access, Outlook, Word) is preferred.
  • Ability to use a design applications like Adobe Express, Canva, or Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Must be comfortable engaging with other students, speaking in front of a camera, and being photographed
  • Must be organized and pay attention to detail
  • Ability to work inclusively in a diverse setting.
  • Maintain confidentiality, be punctual, communicate changes in work schedule in advance.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
