About the Job

The Spine Division within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery has created a new research position that will help transform the way we conduct research by using biostatistics and large data sets to help identify risk factors and emerging trends to change the way we approach spine patient care.

Job Duties: (The following description does not include all possible tasks and does not limit assignment of other related tasks.)
Individual will perform tasks for clinical research investigating the efficacy of spine surgery techniques & associated interventions, and the surgical & patient-reported outcomes in patients with varying spinal conditions (adult spinal deformity, degenerative, etc.)

-65% Perform human, cadaveric or biomechanical studies involving spine surgery techniques & associated interventions to address varying spinal conditions and their associated outcomes. The candidate will collect and analyze data from study participants, and oversee preparation and accurate management of documentation. Within the predetermined research scope and
methodology, conduct bioinformatics/statistical analysis, and disseminate results in accordance with the research goals of the Spine Division.

-35% Assist with writing scientific documents, participation in monthly research meetings, participate in meetings and discussions with surgeons, industry partners and other research staff.
Critical to this role is to ensure that the research tasks are following the approved protocols and regulatory/university requirements.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) with 2 or more years of research experience or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least six years
2. Experience in healthcare
3. Ability to collect and manage electronic data and analyze/interpret collected data using various statistical software
4. High attention to detail and data management skills
5. Ability to ensure that project tasks are completed in an ethically, scientifically, rigorous and timely manner
6. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Ability to adhere to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), FDA Regulations, HIPAA, as well as University policies and procedures, particularly relating to human subjects
2. Experience with clinical research studies and an interest in orthopedic spine clinical outcomes research and patient care
3. Experience in writing of scientific reports (ability to prepare manuscripts, abstracts, other research documents)
4. Experience with statistical software such as R, Python, FreeSurfer, SPSS
5. Experience utilizing online databases such as REDCap, OnCore, and EPIC
6. Experiencing extracting data from patient medical records and National Database Registries

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $25.97-$33.17; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
