POSITION PURPOSE:
The Graphics Coordinator is responsible for the accuracy and printability of artwork to meet customer requirements, to review plates, check-in plates for accuracy to supplied proofs, prepress spec forms and manage all aspects of the plate storage system.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate and track the status of all new and revised jobs as they move between the Prepress department, Plate Making department or other external sites and to the production floor. Report this information on a regular or exception basis as required.
- Perform quality assurance checks as necessary to ensure accuracy, printability and conformance to customer requirements through each step of the prepress process.
- Review artwork for internal and external new art. Items to be reviewed for printability, number of colors, cylinder sizes, approved colors, and comparison of plates to proofs. Communicate and inform Ink Department of any PMS colors that may need to be added.
- Involved in the scheduling, coordination, and execution of trial runs to ensure products meet specified requirements and performance standards from a plate's perspective. This includes reviewing trial results - samples, documenting outcomes, and collaborating with relevant teams to troubleshoot and refine processes.
- Work closely with the plate mounting team to ensure proper handling and execution of plate mounting procedures to reduce plate remakes. Support the team in ensuring that plates are accurately ordered and made in time for production.
- Oversee the management and inventory control of flood coats. This includes ensuring that appropriate quantities are available, tracking usage, and coordinating with suppliers to maintain necessary stock levels. Ensure flood coat processes are aligned with production schedules and quality standards.
- Manage the archiving of plates, ensuring that all plates are properly documented, labeled, and stored for easy retrieval. This includes overseeing the organization of archived plates in accordance with company standards and ensuring that archived plates are maintained for historical reference or reuse.
- Manage plate storage system, obsolete plate storage and New Art spreadsheet for invoicing.
- Maintain and update the plate inventory system, ensuring accurate tracking and documentation of all plates. This includes managing the master location book, ensuring proper organization, and timely updates to inventory records.
- Manage the archiving of plates, ensuring that all plates are properly documented, labeled, and stored for easy retrieval. This includes overseeing the organization of archived plates in accordance with company standards and ensuring that archived plates are maintained for historical reference or reuse.
- Coordinate with plate making and prepress for schedules to modify and approve artwork.
- Identify changes for improved printability and coordinate with external prepress houses.
- Provide technical support as necessary to all internal and external customers.
- Work with Sales and CSRs to review artwork accuracy to prepress specification forms.
- Perform all other tasks as assigned by the Prepress Manager.
The role will include cross-training in plate-making processes to provide flexibility and support across departments. This will ensure proficiency in the creation and management of plates, as well as facilitate smooth workflow during peak times or staff absences.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Excel, Word and Adobe Acrobat proficient.
- Good vision and attention to detail necessary for close visual inspection.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Self-Starting with the ability to function with minimal supervision.
- Highly developed organizational skills necessary to maintain control over large amounts of constantly changing information.
