Summary of Position

We are seeking an experienced Estimator for our Highway & Bridge division, based out of North East, MD. The Estimator is responsible for securing bids, reviewing plans and specifications, and building professional relationships with subcontractors and suppliers. These projects can include bridge, highway and utility infrastructure. The Estimator prepares estimates for part or all the project and must work as part of a team.

A successful candidate should possess an Engineering or Construction Management degree or background along with applicable field experience, strong computer skills, and good communications kills and a willingness to learn.

Typical Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Navigation of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Develop scope of work and prepare bid tabulation sheets.
  • Prepare accurate take-offs.
  • Perform site visits and attend Prebid meetings.
  • Prepare detailed estimates and proposals.
  • Professionally communicate with owners, engineers and vendors.
  • Obtain competitive pricing from material suppliers and subcontractors as required; gather interest from subcontractors and suppliers on projects by phone (primary) and email communication.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Experience & Education

  • Strong computer skills along with proficient written/verbal communication.
  • Experience working with HCSS Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, AGTEK or similar take-off software, and MS Office.
  • Engineering Construction Management or related degree is preferred.
