DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring that operations adhere to both federal and state laws and regulations, as well as established safe practices for the administration and management of medications and biological products. You will contribute to the development and refinement of departmental policies and procedures, facilitating their implementation and necessary updates as circumstances evolve. Your role will also involve overseeing the procurement, storage, maintenance, and control of all pharmaceuticals and biologicals, which includes conducting monthly inventory checks and fulfilling periodic inventory requirements in compliance with regulatory standards.

You will prepare, compound, and dispense medications while accurately entering medication orders into computerized profiles, ensuring that these profiles are regularly updated to monitor for potential drug interactions, incompatibilities, and to optimize therapeutic outcomes. Billing for third-party medications will be conducted concurrently with dispensing. Additionally, you will review individual medication profiles for any signs of adverse reactions or interactions, promptly reporting any discrepancies to the Chief Pharmacist and documenting your findings in the resident's electronic medical record.

Monthly checks of emergency medication boxes will be required, along with restocking the emergency after-hours drug access area in accordance with facility policies. You may also assist in compiling a quarterly report for the Quality Assurance Committee regarding the status of pharmaceutical services, including relevant statistics and quality assessments. Participation in committees such as the Infection Control Committee or Quality Improvement Committee may also be part of your responsibilities. As an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, you will provide expert consultation on medication use and potential drug interactions, and ensure that the receiving facility pharmacist is informed about a resident's medication regimen during transfers, with the consent of the resident or their community pharmacy.
