Summary:

Seeking a highly motivated Functional Genomics and Sequencing Scientist to contribute to the growth and success of our Functional Genomics and Sequencing Laboratory (FGSL). This position offers a unique opportunity to play a key role in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment supporting therapeutic areas (TAs) including Immunology and Respiratory, Oncology, and Cardiovascular Renal Metabolic Research Diseases. The scientist will partner closely with Computational Biology and Data Sciences (CBDS) and FGSL staff to design and execute cutting-edge functional genomics experiments, develop and implement innovative protocols, and deliver high-quality data to accelerate discovery and development programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of functional genomics assays, including CRISPR screening, bulk RNA-seq, and single-cell RNA-seq on tissues, cells, or nuclei suspensions
  • Operate and maintain advanced lab equipment (e.g., NovaSeq X+); troubleshoot and solve scientific and technical challenges independently and efficiently
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and ensure equipment readiness for routine and walk-up use
  • Collaborate with TA scientists to design experiments and interpret data, contributing to decision-making in cross-functional teams and provide training
  • Author protocols, procedures, and technical reports with minimal supervision


Skills or Requirements:
  • In-depth understanding of next-generation sequencing (NGS) and functional genomics, with demonstrated expertise in molecular biology methods.
  • Proven experience in developing and optimizing in vitro cell-based assays, PCR-based assays, or similar workflows.
  • Proficiency in cell culture and familiarity with single-cell techniques and CRISPR assays.
  • Ability to independently operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Experience with laboratory automation and software programming is a plus.
  • Strong ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment, with excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to train and mentor colleagues.


Education:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution with 5+ years of experience in molecular biology, cell biology, or a related scientific discipline.
