Microbiology Associate Scientist/Phlebotomist for R&D

Durham, NC- ONSITE

18-24 month W2 contract (with potential to extend or transition to perm)
Pay rate: $18-23/hr - Depending on Education and Experience


Shift: Day Shift

Summary:

You will work as an Associate Scientist/Phlebotomist to support laboratory testing as part of a development project for a next-generation microbial detection system. This project aims to develop a benchtop automated microbial test system capable of incubating, agitating, and continuously monitoring for the detection of aerobic, facultative, and anaerobic microorganisms growth from blood and other normally sterile body fluids. In addition to the clinical blood culture applications, the instrument will be validated for use in Industrial applications, such as, but not limited to, food and pharmaceutical products. Thirdly, the instrument will be developed for use with the MP culture bottles for the detection and recovery of Mycobacteria. The position will support development activities that include analytical studies performed in a microbiology laboratory.

You will be a member of the R&D Microbiology team and you are expected to perform laboratory activities consistent with applicable Company procedures and practices. The activities will be directed by the R&D Microbiology Manager, Durham, or designee.

Responsibilities:


  • Organization of necessary materials for experimental activities
  • Handling of microbiological cultures, including bacteria, yeasts, moulds, Nocardia, and mycobacteria species using appropriate safety precautions
  • Perform laboratory activities following Biosafety Level 2 requirements (BSL-2)
  • Execution of test protocols as directed
  • Collection and reporting of data in a prescribed format
  • Analysis of data as requested
  • Operation of VIRTUO and BTA3D Microbial Detection Systems
  • Operation of the VITEK MS and VITEK MS Compact systems
  • Compliance with established procedures, protocols, and GDP and quality standards
  • Provides phlebotomy support for Microbiology R&D activities



Skills or Requirements:

  • Laboratory safety
  • Understanding of GLP/GMP
  • Ability to acquire and perform new laboratory Techniques
  • Good communication skills in verbal and written English
  • Good organizational skills



Education:

  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biology preferably Microbiology (Preferred but will accept experience in lieu of degree)
