Our team in Corporate Group is looking for a Release Train Engineer (Digital Thread) to join them. The Digital Thread Agile Release Train (ART) consists of a diverse collection of specialized teams focused on enhancing digital capabilities, operational efficiency, application development and technological innovation across various domains. You will report to the IT PMO & OCM Manager and will have a hybrid work schedule in East Aurora, NY. In this role, you will apply Agile principles to ceremonies such as Program Increment (PI) planning, ART Syncs, and Inspect & Adapt. Collaborating with process and technical teams, Team Coaches, and planning & delivery colleagues in a bimodal IT delivery environment, you will establish and follow a Scaled Agile framework, organizing PI planning and setting quarterly release schedules. Additionally, you will advocate for value delivery, empower all teams within the ART to thrive, and keep stakeholders and team members informed of the ART's progress. To be considered for the Release Train Engineer (Digital Thread) role, here's what you'll typically need to bring with you:
- Typically, a bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum of 2 years in an IT planning or execution role (e.g., Team Coach, Release Train Engineer, Product Owner)
- 5 years' experience as a member of an agile team with 3 years' experience as a Team Coach and/or Product Owner role is preferred.
- Proven track record of success executing in a scaled Agile environment.
- Prior experience with program level reporting
- Prior experience fostering team self-organization and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of Agile and Lean principles and practices
- 1 year of direct or indirect management experience is desirable.
As a Release Train Engineer (Digital Thread), you will:
- Define and manage the quarterly release process ensuring compliance with ITIL and internal audit requirements.
- Schedule, organize, run, and mature quarterly Program Increment (PI) events.
- Align scope, prepare teams, and manage logistics for PI Planning
- Guide feature estimation, track execution of features, and establish measures to help teams deliver business value against their planned objectives.
- Manage the program backlog ensuring that enough work is properly groomed and ready for the next PI event.
- Facilitate cross-team impediment removal, risk management and escalation.
- Organize, facilitate, and mature a PI cycle of ART ceremonies and processes, supporting train teams in delivering value.
- Coordinate planning efforts with other ARTs.
- Drive continuous process improvement activities and, via Team Coaches, assist delivery teams with lean/agile concepts, audit, and testing requirements.
- Facilitate value stream mapping to define work steps, identifying handoffs, bottlenecks, and delays.
- Communicate with stakeholders, escalate impediments, help manage risk, and drive relentless improvement to teams and train.
- Act as a servant leader and ART coach to the Digital Thread train through a full Scaled Agile Planning Interval (PI)
- Influence ART leadership (CIO, Directors, and Section Heads) to model servant leadership for their teams and sponsor adoption and usage of a Scaled Agile framework.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities, provide work direction and performance feedback to a team of Team Coaches
- Guide and mentor Team Coaches, encouraging and supporting their personal development and the development of the train teams.
- Employ SAFe core competency self-assessments to help improve technical and business practices for leaders and teams.
