Job Summary

The Packing Lead manages workflow, provides direction to the department's employees for day-to-day production. They will be responsible for accurate counting of received product from vendors, matching with purchase orders, and packaging of completed jobs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the loading, packing, and shipping of products, ensuring shipments match the pick ticket and are labeled correctly. (Overlaps with Shipping Coordinator - Coordinator ensures accuracy, Operator executes).
  • Physically handle shipments, including moving, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and organizing packages.
  • Operate hand pallet jacks and forklifts (if certified or willing to be certified).
  • Ensure all shipments are properly packed and labeled according to specifications. (Overlaps with Shipping Coordinator - Coordinator ensures paperwork is correct, Operator applies labels).
  • Conduct routine equipment checks (pallet jacks, forklifts, shipping tools) to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized shipping area. (Overlaps with Shipping Coordinator - both should enforce cleanliness).
  • Assist in receiving and processing incoming shipments per company protocols. (This is more hands-on, so primarily the Operator's role).
  • Ensure that all safety protocols and company procedures are followed in the shipping process. (Overlaps with Shipping Coordinator - both are responsible for enforcing safety)
  • Maintain inventory accuracy by verifying the contents of shipments and resolving discrepancies. (Overlaps with Shipping Coordinator - Operator handles physical checks, Coordinator updates records).
  • Assists in using the ERP System to track and confirm shipped orders. (Assists Shipping Coordinator - ensures shipment data is accurate).
  • Assists in tracking backorder paperwork and outstanding shipments. (Assists Shipping Coordinator - provides shipment status updates).
  • Assists in managing shipping documents such as Bill of Lading, invoices, and packing slips. (Assists Shipping Coordinator - ensures paperwork is included with shipments).
  • Assists in communicating with carriers and internal teams about shipping timelines. (Assists Shipping Coordinator - relays updates on shipment progress).
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the supervisor or management.
  • To reinforce training and operational flexibility, responsibilities may periodically rotate between the Shipping & Receiving Coordinator and Packing Lead. This structured approach ensures both employees remain proficient in all aspects of shipping, improving adaptability and overall efficiency.

Requirements

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to be forklift certified.
  • Telephone communication skills for internal purposes.
  • Fluency in English communication skills.
  • Well organized, detail oriented.
  • Ability to accurately compute proportional measurements and spacing using a ruler or tape measure.
  • Ability to accept and adapt to change, work under pressure.
  • Some mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with your hands.
  • Basic computer skills - email, some knowledge of Excel.
  • High school diploma or equivalent in experience and training.
  • One year receiving and warehouse experience in a production-manufacturing environment.
