Position Overview

The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.

NOTE:This position is funded through an external grant. Continued employment beyond the fiscal year is contingent upon continued funding.

POSITION SUMMARY
The GEAR UP Advisor will be highly qualified to deliver services to student participants in the partner schools. This position reports to the GEAR UP Director, Manager of Outreach and Advising, and works closely with the rest of the team and with the local schools being served, to ensure the objectives of the grant are met and are in line with the strategic plan of ENMU-Roswell. This position will be responsible for the Lake Arthur and Hagerman districts.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead/Facilitate/Support: Offer individual academic/career advising to cohort students
  • Maintain high-touch mentoring relationship with participants/families, monitoring participant progress and determining needed interventions
  • Offer ongoing financial aid/literacy information and assistance
  • Oversee tutoring services, supervising tutors and monitoring online tutoring
  • Coordinate career and/or college club meetings and college planning/application activities
  • Oversee online mentoring and related software
  • Work collaboratively with the local schools/district and GEAR UP team members
  • Meet all expectations and other duties as assigned or directed
  • Take initiative and work creatively to implement program services
  • Collect and input data to management system, as it relates to program services

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum one year experience working with middle school, high school, and/or post-secondary students
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet grant objectives
  • Experience with disadvantaged students
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Background similar to participants
  • Computer and marketing software knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Advocate and support local community outreach for the GEAR UP cohort

Working Conditions

Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines
Work is not sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
