About the RoleDo you enjoy developing and integrating innovative solutions to tough problems? Join our team to deliver technological solutions in a rapid and agile production environment. Our Propulsion engineers research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge vehicles and systems. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems to orbital and space exploration systems. Your technical duties will include the analysis and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.

Sierra Space is specifically seeking engineers with experience in propulsion fluid system development. Experience with fluid analysis of thrusters, aerospace valves, filters, propellant management devices, slosh, water hammer, and more. This position will work with the larger propulsion system team to develop feed system architectures and component requirements. Work with internal and external suppliers and support their integration, testing, and operation on various programs at Sierra Space.

This position offers multiple locations: Louisville, CO or Centennial, CO or Madison, CO.

We're looking for dreamers who align with our values, vision and audacious goals - while also meeting the minimum qualifications below. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related discipline and typically 10 or more years of relevant experience. Advanced degree may count towards years of experience
  • Relevant work experience may substitute for required education
  • Understanding of engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with aerospace fluid and thermodynamic systems and/or components
  • Familiarity with working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
  • Familiarity with 1-D Fluid modeling and simulation tools such Simulink, GTSuite, Amesim, or others
  • Strong communication skills, and ability to quickly develop a model to answer tough questions
  • Experience testing propulsion hardware using in-house resources.
  • Experience and knowledge with common sensors and instrumentation (Transducers, RTDs, etc)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Gov security clearance at the Secret or Top Secret level

Preferred:

  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance
  • Experience applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
  • Familiarity with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermal Analysis using tools such as Thermal Desktop, StarCCM, Sinda Fluint, Flow3D, LSDyna, or CFD++
  • Familiarity with thermochemical codes such as PEP and CEA
  • Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing, and production processes

Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
  • Rarely lifting or carrying up to 25 lbs.

Working Conditions:

  • Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)
  • Rarely exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials
  • Rarely exposed to loud noises

Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:$120,552.10 - $165,759.14
