What You Will Do:

  • Designing and developing mechanical components, systems, and machines using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other tools.

  • Conducting research and development to improve existing mechanical designs or develop new ones.

  • Analyzing and testing mechanical systems and components to ensure they meet safety, reliability, and performance standards.

  • Collaborating with other engineers, technicians, and production staff to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.

  • Providing technical support to production teams during the manufacturing process.

  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation, including engineering drawings, specifications, and reports.

  • Identifying and solving complex technical problems related to mechanical systems and components.

  • Keeping up to date with advances in mechanical engineering technology and techniques.

  • Understanding of safety regulations and compliance standards.

  • Maximizes efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization.

  • Hands-on work on the shop floor to inspect, assemble, and install mechanical components and systems.

  • Determines parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specification.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science.

  • Proficiency in CAD and SolidWorks software along with other engineering tools.

  • Researches and applies the latest practices and technologies applicable to the manufacturing environment.

  • Troubleshoots problems and recommends appropriate actions.

  • Knows and enforces compliance with all safety policies and procedures.

  • Drives and contributes to the departments continuous improvement culture.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all matters.

  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • College, university, or equivalent degree from an accredited program in Engineering, Science, or related subject required. Or equivalent education and/or experience.

  • Certification applicable to the country of employment, such as APEGA, required.

  • Courses and seminars required to maintain appropriate certifications.

  • Three years of relevant experience

  • Experience in continuous improvement/lean concepts

  • Experience in safety methodology

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong math and analytical skills.

  • Good organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong collaboration skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a heavy manufacturing industry

Physical Requirements:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • The employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

  • The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment:

  • Work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well ventilated facilities.

  • Work is executed in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.

  • Work occasionally requires visits to the production floor, with varying temperatures and high levels of noise; safety equipment such as glasses and protective shoes may be required.
