New Hanover County is looking for a Fiscal Support Supervisor to join the Tax Department. This role oversees the daily operation of activities related to the maintenance of County revenue and expense accounts.
Responsibilities for this role include:
- Supervise staff in the cashier and mail sections where duties include assigning and monitoring work, reviewing daily collection reports for compliance with established procedures, preparing bank deposits, reviewing tax overpayments and verifying accuracy, and additional duties determined by the Tax Collection Supervisor or Tax Administration.
- Supervise two or more full-time staff by prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff is trained, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
- Compile and analyze financial information by performing general ledger adjustments.
- Analyze county ledgers and supporting documents in order to ensure the accuracy and integrity of various financial reports.
- Analyze revenue collections monthly, quarterly, annually, and on demand.
- Monitor and reconcile all revenue collected by tax collection teams.
- Quality Control and management of Refund processing.
- Oversee daily operations of Fiscal Support Specialist Team in Tax Collections.
- Reporting and Billing for all Municipalities in New Hanover County.
- Mass payment file processing.
- Provide support for all implementations for Tax Collection.
- Customer relations for Tax Collections
- Customer escalations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, OR ABILITIES Knowledge of basic mathematical principles; record keeping procedures; basic accounting principles; billing and property systems; applicable laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances; financial software; office practices and procedures; Federal and State tax guidelines; basic statistical principles; and supervisory principles. Skilled in operating computer hardware and software applications; operating various office machines; preparing work schedules; training employees; preparing various reports; preparing budget request; performing financial analysis; performing statistical analysis; supervising and evaluating employees; communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.
Employment Type: Full-time, exempt
Salary Information: The hiring range for this position is
$48,678 - 65,715 annually plus a competitive benefits package.
Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
- Knowledge, skills, education, training, and experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the functions of the role and successfully perform the essential duties, with three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a supervisory role performing similar duties.
