  • Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Job Summary:

The Quality Research Fellow will actively participate in gastrointestinal surgery research, encompassing protocol development, data collection, analysis, and interpretation to improve surgical outcomes. This role involves collaborating with the Principal Investigator and surgical team on innovative research projects, building and maintaining research databases, and preparing publications for scientific dissemination. The Research Associate will ensure compliance with regulations, engage in academic activities and professional development, contribute to educational materials, participate in mentorship and networking opportunities, and support grant writing and fundraising initiatives.

What you will do:

  • Conduct Research: Actively engage in gastrointestinal surgery research initiatives, emphasizing protocol development, data collection, analysis, and interpretation to enhance surgical outcomes and patient care. Participate in enrolling patients in clinical trials and collaborate on multi-institutional national and international research projects to expand the scope and impact of research efforts.
  • Prepare Publications: Prepare and submit manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations for scientific conferences and peer-reviewed journals, ensuring high-quality contributions to the academic community.
  • Collaborate with Team: Work closely with the Principal Investigator and surgical team to design and execute innovative research projects, fostering a collaborative and productive research environment.
  • Educational Contributions: Assist in the creation of educational videos for research and teaching purposes, actively participate in submitting and presenting research at national meetings, and engage in literature reviews and critical analyses of research papers and clinical trials.
  • Grant Writing and Fundraising: Contribute to grant writing and fundraising initiatives to secure financial support for ongoing and future research projects
  • Mentorship and Networking: Participate in weekly and monthly mentoring sessions with designated faculty within the Department of Surgery. Gain exposure to the academic surgical community through Grand Rounds and society webinars to enhance professional networking.
  • Data Management: Build and maintain research databases, ensuring accuracy and reliability through comprehensive analysis in collaboration with statisticians to facilitate research advancement.

What you will need:

  • Education: Doctoral degree (M.D.) in the medical field, with completion of PGY-2 or PGY-3 residency training required.
  • Experience: 1 year of experience in advanced research design and methodology, 1-2 years experience in sophisticated data analysis and interpretation and 2-3 years experience in scientific writing and communication.
  • Licensure/Certifications: Doctoral degree (M.D.) , with GI/Surgical residency training
