Overview
Laboratory Specimen Processer Full Time; 2:00pm-10:30pm; FTE 1.0 Rock Island; IL The Laboratory Specimen Processor's primary responsibility is the operation, and organization of the Central Collection department. Foremost among these responsibilities are strictly adhering to detail in the quality/acceptability of specimens received, details in the orders, and insurance status of the patient, performance of laboratory procedures, and solving practical problems.
Responsibilities
Specimen Processing
- Responsible for the processing and preparation for delivery of specimens to technical sections within the lab, various reference laboratories with which Trinity is affiliated, and State Hygienic Labs.
- Identifies and distinguishes between government, and commercial payors in order to release clinic orders from Epic EMR to Sunquest LIS
- Transcribe orders and complete payor entry in Epic for UPH At Home, and UPH Hospice patient specimens

- Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

- Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
