Corporate Controller

Position Overview

As a key member of the leadership team, the Corporate Controller is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's accounting operations, with a focus on compliance with government regulations and contract-specific accounting standards. This role will ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, maintain robust internal controls, and support the company in meeting the complex requirements of government contracts, including FAR and CAS. The ideal candidate will have extensive accounting experience working in government contracting, strong technical accounting knowledge, and leadership abilities to manage and grow a high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities

Government Contract Accounting & Compliance



  • Oversee the accounting function for the company, including payroll, accounts payable, invoicing and cash management, general ledger, financial reconciliations, taxes, revenue recognition, project accounting, and the month close process in accordance with both GAAP and government-specific accounting requirements.
  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with both GAAP and government-specific accounting requirements.
  • Ensure proper allocation of costs to contracts, including direct and indirect costs, and prepare detailed cost proposals and cost accounting records.
  • Ensure accounting practices and transactions comply with FAR, CAS, and other relevant government regulations.
  • Assist in managing and monitoring contract audits, including those conducted by government auditors.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership regarding cost management and revenue recognition.



Internal Controls & Risk Management



  • Design, implement, and monitor internal controls specific to government contracting, ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives to enhance accounting processes and ensure financial reporting accuracy.
  • Assess and mitigate financial risks related to contract performance, cost allocations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring all required documentation and financial records are ready for review.



Team Leadership & Development



  • Lead and mentor the corporate accounting team, ensuring their development in government contract accounting practices.
  • Implement training programs to ensure that accounting staff stays up-to-date on industry regulations, best practices, and internal procedures.
  • Provide training on FAR, CAS, and other government-related accounting standards to program managers and company leadership, ensuring their understanding and compliance.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance environment, ensuring team members are motivated and supported.
  • Work closely with other departments, including contracts, procurement, and project management, to ensure accurate financial reporting and cost management for government contracts.



Accounting Systems & Automation



  • Oversee the integration and optimization of accounting systems to handle government contract requirements efficiently.
  • Collaborate with IT to implement software upgrades or tools that improve the efficiency and accuracy of company accounting.



Job Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience in a large ($200M+ annual revenue) professional services government contractor, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial position.
  • Proven track record in leading a high-functioning accounting team in a complex, multi-project, government contracting environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of government accounting standards, including FAR, CAS, and DFARS.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting and allocation methods for government contracts.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g. Deltek CostPoint), Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central desired.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior leadership, internal teams, government agencies, and external auditors (including DCAA and DCMA).
