The expected hiring range for this position is:

$69,300.00-$98,500.00.

About the Role:
Fermilab is seeking an Electrical Engineer I. Under direct supervision, utilizes fundamental engineering concepts and principles to perform basic engineering tasks and develop enhanced familiarization with Laboratory's method of project engineering, from the design stage through review, procurement, manufacture, installation, test, and operation.

What your day-to-day as an Electrical Engineer I at Fermilab will look like:

  • Analyzes data and performs engineering calculations. Develops less complicated designs of specific parts, components, or phases of a project.
  • Develops and documents basic engineering design solutions, usually consisting of basic engineering techniques.
  • Provides technical direction to draftspersons, designers, engineering associates and technicians, as assigned.
  • Participates in procurement, as well as manufacturing, installation, testing, and operation.
  • Assists in the development of cost estimates, as well as the monitoring of budgetary obligations.
  • With review and approval of supervisor, propose resources, ensuring conformance to specifications and cost/time constraints.
  • Serves on safety panels, review committees, and other subcommittees as assigned.
  • May participate in technical conferences and publication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

Skills and Attributes for Success:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an applicable Engineering discipline. Possess ability to perform basic engineering design solutions and techniques.

Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Basic professional knowledge of theories, concepts, principles, and methodology for the engineering discipline. Possess ability to perform basic engineering design solutions and techniques.
  • Knowledgeable of high-power design and implementation.
  • Some experience maintaining hardware for high power RF systems desirable.
  • Knowledgeable of high frequency analog circuits.
  • Knowledgeable of practical digital circuit design.
  • Strong understanding of RF/Microwave fundamentals.
  • Hands-on electronics hardware experience with oscilloscopes, signal generators, network analyzers, and spectrum analyzers is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to see the big picture and pay attention to details while performing problem solving analysis on a flexible range of tasks.
  • Must be able to meet qualifications (oxygen deficiency hazard) for occasional work in an area with cryogens or interlocked area.
  • Experience with Microwave Studio, HFSS, Mathematica, MATLAB, LabView, and ADS HF/microwave software preferred.
  • Experience with resonant cavity structures, copper and superconducting desirable.

  • Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
