THE POSITION

Distribution: Department Only - This position is open to current Department of Corrections employees only.
Work Hours: 40 hour work week, 2200-0600 hrs., Sunday through Thursday
This position provides Control Desk and Security coverage for the Department of Corrections Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
-
This position is responsible for the following duties and functions:
Properly inventory all security items to include the security tags on the emergency key box and transport bags. Annotate inventory in the control log book.
Monitor the main entrance and exit of the Academy (Elder Hall).
Receive and direct incoming phone calls or take messages.
Maintain keys and communications equipment and provide security for them.
Limit access to the control desk area to only authorized personnel.
Prevent the unauthorized removal of Academy property.
Secure and log all firearms from armed personnel who enter the Academy.
Serve as point of contact for training participants who are lodging at the Academy.
Assign and log room assignments for training participants.
Document all pertinent information in the log book.
Monitor the armory and fire alarms.
Receive and log telephone contact from the boiler plant operator.
Maintain the Control Desk log, training participant log, housing logs, radio logs, adjunct instructor log, etc.
Notify the Security Supervisor of any incidents occurring during the shift.
Make hourly fire and security rounds of the Academy buildings.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

You must be eligible for selection in accordance with merit system employment regulations. ELIGIBILITY - ALL APPLICANTS: 1.Meet the minimum experience and training (MET's) for the job:
* Successful completion of the Corrections Officer Trainee Program; OR
* One year of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility. Please Note: Certain SCI Corrections Officer positions will require applicants to have and maintain an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent. 2. Be eligible for selection in accordance with Merit System Employment Regulations. This position is a management position and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum or understanding. PA Residency is waived for this position.
