Position Type: Full Time, 40 hours/week, Exempt, On Site

Schedule: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday, 24/7 accountability, occasional night/weekend hours


Your role with us

As Manager of Clinical Engineering at Salem Health, you will oversee the team that provides around-the-clock support for over 18,000 pieces of medical equipment across the health system. Each piece of equipment that touches a patient at Salem Hospital, West Valley Hospital, and Salem Health's network of clinics throughout Marion and Polk Counties will fall under your care. All systems, configurations, and application upgrades for items ranging from blood pressure cuffs to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are included in your scope.

You will manage a team of over twenty, including a supervisor, asset specialists, biomedical technicians, project consultants, and clinical technology administrators who maintain all electrical and mechanical aspects of these life-saving machines. This group of specialists and generalists are deeply passionate about their work and fully committed to supporting our community by improving patients' lives through medical technology. This is the ideal role for an individual with a strong health care, clinical engineering, and/or information services background who shares that passion and commitment to community.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the technical healthcare leader for this scope of work, developing strategies and work plans while monitoring the progress of active projects within the Information Services department.
  • Research, develop, administer, and continuously improve technical healthcare systems and services to ensure performance while meeting all regulatory requirements, guidelines, and standards.
  • Monitor requests for enterprise technology equipment and software, tapping into your communication, time management, innovation, and project leadership skills.
  • Provide oversight for your team, ensuring a high level of competency, service, and engagement, while providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Engage with leaders and colleagues throughout the organization, contributing to planning, problem solving, and system improvement efforts.
  • Represent the Clinical Engineering department on behalf of Information Services Department/Salem Health in the areas of Biomedical Technology, Imaging, Radiology and others.
  • Manage to a budget, identifying and securing resources to support initiatives while acting as a strong financial steward of the organization.
  • Provide clinical engineering resources to conduct pre-purchase evaluations, research vendors, and assess cost of ownership in support of biomedical equipment acquisitions.
  • Supply clinical engineering resources to manage medical equipment planning for construction projects involving biomedical equipment at all sites.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of clinical engineering, information services, and/or healthcare experience.
  • Two years of leadership experience, including six months of supervisory experience.

Additional Information

  • Biomedical Equipment Technician certificate and Information Technology Infrastructure Library certificate are preferred.
  • Top candidates will have two years of experience with project management.
