THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an intern, you will enhance your skills in using computers and laptops while receiving training in air conditioning service for equipment. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate teamwork, reliability, and a commitment to safety. Your experience will include developing effective communication skills, conducting inspections, performing repairs, and engaging in preventative maintenance on various equipment. You will utilize laptops for diagnostics and collaborate with certified mechanics on air conditioning system repairs. Close cooperation with fellow mechanics, operators, and garage office staff will be essential for effective communication regarding equipment repairs. It is important to adhere to punctuality, follow safety protocols, and wear the provided personal protective equipment (PPE). Additionally, you will assist Diesel Mechanics in addressing issues related to chassis, driveline, engine, electrical, and suspension work across a range of equipment types.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location.
  • Senior enrolled in High School 2025-2026 - The internship could begin 7/1/2025 and go through the 2025-2026 school year.
  • Junior enrolled in High School 2025-2026 - The internship could begin 7/1/2025 and go through the 2025-2026 school year, summer 2026, and 2026-2027 school year.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years of age.
  • You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school during the 2025 - 2026 school year.

Additional Requirements:
  • Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
  • Must be a vo-tech (career and technical center) student in an approved cooperative vocational training program that has prepared the student for the duties and the description of work described in this posting.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
